Alcatel and Pirelli develop "Radio over Fiber" module for 3G mobile networks

26 November 2003 Bridgewater, NJ Lightwave -- Hamamatsu Corp. recently introduced two new Receiver Optical Sub-assemblies (ROSAs), the G9282-14 and G9285-14, which it claims feature high-speed response, as well as high gain and sensitivity.

Zarlink introduces analog timing chip for OC-12 optical line cards
25 November 2003 Ottawa, Canada Lightwave -- Zarlink Semiconductor today launched an analog timing chip for SONET/SDH line cards operating at up to OC-12/STM-4 rates. The ZL30415 analog phase locked-loop (PLL) is an integrated timing device that offers jitter performance surpassing industry requirements and a frequency-selectable output clock that reduces design costs.

Canon unveils low cost, 4th-generation FSO system
25 November 2003 Lake Success, NY Lightwave -- Canon recently unveiled its forth-generation free space optics (FSO) transmission system, the Canobeam DT-100. The point-to-point optical beam transceivers feature built-in Auto Tracking throughout all three models, compact design, and exceptional affordability, say company representatives, who claim the new Canobeam is, on average, 33% less expensive than its predecessors.

Quake introduces IEEE 802.3 10GBASE-LX4 and 10GBASE-CX4 compatible transceiver for Ethernet and Fibre Channel
24 November 2003 Ottawa, Canada and San Jose, CA Lightwave - Quake Technologies today announced the availability of QT2044, the first dual-mode transceiver compatible with the IEEE 802.3 10GBASE-LX4 and 10GBASE-CX4 standard. The QT2044 allows 10-Gbit/sec transmission over legacy multimode fiber while simultaneously doubling the reach of copper cabling within a data center.

EZchip announces AdvancedTCA evaluation system
21 November 2003 San Jose, CA Lightwave -- EZchip Technologies (a subsidiary of LanOptics Ltd.), a fabless semiconductor company providing high-speed network processors, has introduced a new evaluation system for its NP-1c 10-Gbit/sec network processor. The system is compliant with the new Advanced Telecommunications Computing Architecture (AdvancedTCA) and is provided as a blade that can be plugged into an AdvancedTCA chassis or as a standalone, self-contained box.
