China Netcom and Alcatel team to build an intelligent optical network in Beijing
16 December 2003 Paris and Beijing Lightwave Europe--Alcatel and Beijing Communications Corporation, a subsidiary of China Netcom, announced today that the two companies signed a $20 million (U.S.)contract to build an intelligent optical network for enhancing the information infrastructure in Beijing.
Corning Cable Systems provides OPGW fiber-optic cable in Panama
15 December 2003 Corning, NY Lightwave--Corning announced that fiber-optic cable and connectivity products from its subsidiary Corning Cable Systems, are being deployed in Panama's 400-km national fiber-optic backbone project. In November 2002, Consorcio Andino awarded Corning Cable Systems a multimillion dollar contract.

NEC completes Thailand-Indonesia-Singapore Cable Network
2 December 2003 Tokyo Lightwave -- NEC Corporation today announced that it has successfully completed the construction of a new submarine optical cable network, named TIS (Thailand -Indonesia - Singapore) Cable Network for a consortium formed by CAT Telecom Public Company Ltd. of Thailand, PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia Tbk of Indonesia and Singapore Telecommunications Limited of Singapore. The system will commence operations for commercial service immediately.

French city deploys carrier-class optical Ethernet
14 November 2003 Pau, France Lightwave -- The French city of Pau will deploy a new public optical Ethernet infrastructure that will allow -- for the first time in France -- end users to subscribe to voice, data, and video services via a single open transport network. The multi-service network will deliver Pau's residents 100-Mbit/sec access to triple-play services including Internet access, VoIP, more than 100 TV channels, and video on demand for 30 euros a month.
Interoute deploys P-Cube solutions for IP service and traffic control
