21 January 2004 Chatsworth, CA Lightwave -- LuminentOIC, supplier of metro transceivers and Fiber-to-the-Premise (FTTP) solutions, has announced availability of what it claims is the industry's first DWDM Small Form Pluggable (SFP) transceiver. The new Manhattan series of DWDM SFPs delivers twice the density and half the power consumption at CWDM pricing, say company representatives.

Agilent announces fiber-optic transceivers for 4-Gbit/sec Fibre Channel
20 January 2004 Palo Alto, CA Lightwave--Agilent Technologies today announced fiber-optic transceivers targeted at 4-Gbit/sec Fibre Channel applications. The small-form factor (SFF) and small-form factor pluggable (SFP) devices support next-generation storage networks based on the emerging 4-Gbit/sec standard, which is expected to be the next performance level for Fibre Channel storage networks.

Laser module combines multiple emitters into a single package
19 January 2004 Madison, WI Lightwave -- Alfalight, Inc. has expanded its portfolio of fiber-coupled laser products with its 20-W Combined Power Module (CPM-20). The CPM-20 produces a high-brightness multimode output beam by combining the output of seven high-power emitters.

Berk-Tek GIGAlite-10XB fiber supports 10-GbE at greater distance
16 January 2004 Orlando, FL Lightwave -- Berk-Tek, a Nexans Co., has introduced GIGAlite-10XB, which the company touts as "the industry's highest performing 50-micron multimode fiber." Berk-Tek cables featuring GIGAlite-10XB optical fiber will support 10-Gigabit Ethernet using serial 850-nm VCSEL technologies to a guaranteed distance of 600 m.

ILX Lightwave launches reliability test system for laser diodes and LEDs

Internet Photonics announces 40-Wavelength DWDM optical add-drop multiplexer

The LightHandler can transmit up to 40 DWDM signals over a single fiber strand.

Agilent first to offer high- and low-order LCAS emulation for testing SONET/SDH MSPPs
13 January 2004 Palo Alto, CA Lightwave--Agilent Technologies today announced support for SONET/SDH link capacity adjustment scheme (LCAS) at both high- and low-order virtual concatenation levels for its OmniBER OTN J7232A 2.5-Gbit/sec analyzer.
