Draka Comteq's 'BendBright' optical fiber suits access, distribution networks July 19, 2005 Claremont, North Carolina -- Draka Comteq has introduced its BendBright singlemode optical fiber, which the company says combines low bend sensitivity with full spectrum performance. According to the company, the fiber provides enhanced bend performance across the entire 1310 - 1625-nm spectrum, for reduced operational costs and more craft-friendly cabling and hardware.
Integrated network processor, traffic manager devices target access, metro apps July 18, 2005 San Diego, CA -- As the latest members of its nP3700 family of 5-Gbit/sec integrated network processors and traffic managers, Applied Micro Circuits Corporation (AMCC) today introduced its nP3740 and nP3750 devices, which the company says are optimized for packet processing applications within the access and metro transport markets.
VITex introduces 10-Gbit/sec TIA July 14, 2005 Englewood Cliffs, NJ -- Vitex, a North American supplier of Asian fiber-optic products, has announced the availability of the latest transimpedance amplifier (TIA) in XL Photonics' XPD1000 series. The 10-Gbit/sec PIN-TIA handles wavelengths ranging from 1000 nm to 1600 nm.
Micrel launches 4.25-Gbit/sec, 6.4-Gbit/sec backplane, cable management platforms July 13, 2005 San Jose, CA -- Micrel recently launched its new family of backplane management ICs, aimed at Gigabit Ethernet, Infiniband, 1x and 4x Fiber Channel, and SONET/SDH serial backplane or cable applications between 125 Mbit/sec and 6.4Gbit/sec.
Vitesse launches burst mode components for FTTH GEPON systems July 12, 2005 Camarillo, CA -- Vitesse has introduced its VSC7716 burst mode transimpedance amplifier (TIA) and its VSC7966 laser driver and limiting amplifier for Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Networks (GEPONs). According to the company, designed for FTTH applications, the two devices, when combined with a laser, enable a complete GEPON optical line termination (OLT) module platform, supporting deployments of GEPON systems meeting IEEE-standard requirements.
3M launches "hot melt" LC connectors July 11, 2005 Austin, TX -- 3M has introduced its "hot melt" LC connectors. Designed for installation in fiber-optic networks, the connectors accommodate singlemode or multimode fiber, and come in simplex and duplex versions for a variety of cable sizes ranging from 250 and 900 micron buffer up to 3-mm jacketed cable. The company says the easy-to-install, field-mount connectors offer the reliability of an adhesive, and require no internal splice.
Xtellus launches DWDM micro wavelength blocker July 6, 2005 Morris Plains, NJ -- Xtellus, a designer and manufacturer of liquid crystal-based dynamic optical modules and components for DWDM networks, today introduced its Wavelength Blocker 7000, a micro wavelength blocker which the company says is optimized for deployment in Cable MSO optical networks and metro telecommunications networks.
AFL intros "Fast" line of SC, ST connectors July 5, 2005 Spartanburg, SC -- From AFL Telecommunications, the SC and ST Fast Connectors are pre-polished, field installable connectors that eliminate the need for hand polishing in the field. The company says the connectors provide an immediate termination to either singlemode or multimode fibers.
High-density T1/J1/E1 line interface units optimized for optical transport apps June 30, 2005 San Jose, CA -- Integrated Device Technology (IDT) has introduced a line of high-density T1/E1/J1 line interface units (LIUs). The products, which include 28-, 21- and 16-channel options in ultra-small packages, are designed to enable tributary aggregation in applications such as multi-service provisioning platforms (MSPPs), optical multiplexers, edge routers, and wireless transport systems.
High-density multirate framer/mapper IC supports SONET/SDH/GbE switch, router apps June 29, 2005 Sunnyvale, CA -- Cortina Systems has introduced its Arsenal application specific standard product (ASSP), a high-density multirate framer and mapper IC for Ethernet switch and router applications. The company says the device eliminates the need for multiple line card developments by providing a single platform with SONET, SDH, and Ethernet-compliant functionality.
