Adtran expands optical access platform to combine SONET, SDH, enhanced Ethernet June 10, 2005 Huntsville, AL -- Adtran, a provider of network access equipment, announced that the next generation of its OPTI-6100 optical multiplexer will feature enhanced Ethernet service capabilities, as well as SDH capability, to serve international markets. According to the company, the enhanced device, now featuring both SONET and SDH capabilities, is equipped to address virtually any access or small metro ring application for global carriers.
ADC intros SONET multi-service transmission system for TDM, Ethernet June 10, 2005 Minneapolis, MN -- ADC has introduced its LoopStar 1600 SONET multi-service transmission system. The company says its LoopStar access systems allow service providers to cost-effectively transport and manage TDM and Ethernet services to end-user customers from a single platform.
Meriton launches fully integrated ROADM, optical crossconnect system June 10, 2005 Chicago, IL, and Ottawa, ON -- Meriton Networks has introduced what it calls a fully integrated reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexer (ROADM) and optical crossconnect (OXC) system. According to the company, release 4 of its 7200 optical add/drop switch (OADX) adds STS-1/VC-4 grooming to its existing ROADM and transparent wavelength switching capabilities. The product was introduced at this week's Supercomm 2005.

ECI adds XDM ROADM support June 7, 2005 Chicago, IL -- ECI Telecom has added reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexer (ROADM) capabilities to its XDM MSPP/MSTP platform. Additions to the platform include pluggable ROADMs and a wavelength selective switch (WSS) with built-in amplifiers, as well as a wavelength blocker, according to the company. The company says its XDM ROADM options economically provide carriers with wavelength provisioning flexibility, while enabling a comprehensive optical platform.
Transmode GbE platform enables IP backhaul networks June 6, 2005 Chicago, IL -- Transmode has introduced its Double Dual Gigabit Ethernet Transponder, a plug-in unit for its TM-Series platform (formerly called Mentis). The company says the small form-factor pluggable (SFP)-based card allows the deployment of small-footprint, fully-integrated metro WDM nodes, to enable economical backhaul of Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) traffic generated by DSL and Cable-based broadband access systems.

According to the company, its BICSI Compliant Bend Radius Limiter module is easy to install, and offers a bend radius control of 1.5" (39 mm).
Sumitomo Electric Lightwave to launch FTTX deployment aids June 3, 2005 Research Triangle Park, NC -- At next week's Supercomm 2005, Sumitomo Electric Lightwave will introduce two products designed to ease fiber deployments: its 3 x 4-fiber modular ribbon for FTTP/FTTH deployments, and its FC-7 fiber cleaver, which the company calls a handheld, 1-step fiber cleaver for use in fusion splicing, field termination, and other precision FTTX applications.
