Bookham debuts wideband tunable transponder at OFC March 9, 2005 San Jose, CA -- Bookham, a provider of optical components, modules, and subsystems, unveiled its widely tunable transponder at this week's OFC/NFOEC conference. According to the company, its 10-Gbit/sec, 300-pin T1X transponder is among the first fully tunable modules to incorporate an internally produced laser and receiver.
Passave achieves FEC breakthrough in Ethernet, FTTH March 8, 2005 Santa Clara, CA -- Passave, a provider of semiconductors for FTTH applications, has released a sophisticated error-correction mechanism for EPONs. The company says its forward error correction (FEC) mechanism enables the use of low-cost, low-power lasers in optical networks, allowing Ethernet to successfully transmit data over low-quality transmission lines, such as those using aging fiber.
OE Solutions rolls out bi-directional SFP transceiver for EFM March 8, 2005 Santa Ana, CA -- OE Solutions, a global supplier of optoelectronic transceivers for optical communications, has introduced its bi-directional SFP Transceiver for point-to-point FTTP applications. The company's OBT12SLX product family addresses the IEEE 802.3ah Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) Standard, supporting 1000Base-BX10-U for 10-km upstream applications over a single strand of singlemode fiber.
Agiltron unveils reconfigurable optical components, short wavelength isolators March 8, 2005 Wilmington, MA -- Agiltron, a vertically integrated manufacturer of fiber-optic components, has introduced its NanoSpeed family of reconfigurable fiber-optic components for communication and sensor applications. According to the company, the product line includes switches, EVOAs, and variable splitters with rise and fall times as low as 10 ns.
BroadLight unveils GPON, EPON, and BPON transceivers at OFC March 7, 2005 Mountain View, CA -- BroadLight, a supplier of semiconductors, software, and transceivers for FTTP deployments, has announced its line of SFF MSA transceivers for GPON, EPON, and BPON applications, as well as a GE-PON transceiver, in both two and three wavelengths. According to the company, the transceivers target both central office OLT and customer premises ONT applications, blending superior performance with telecom grade quality.
Kotura single channel VOA features sub-microsecond response time March 4, 2005 Monterey Park, CA -- Kotura, a provider of silicon photonic components, has introduced its Ultra Variable Optical Attenuator 1030, which the company calls a very fast single channel VOA in a compact package.
Bookham to roll out 980-nm pump laser module at OFC March 4, 2005 San Jose, CA -- Bookham, a provider of optical components, modules, and subsystems, will introduce its LC96 series 980-nm pump laser modules at next week's OFC/NFOEC conference. According to the company, the module is the most powerful of its kind for telecom applications, combining "kink-free" power output of up to 580mW with high reliability and stable performance.
Fiberxon to display GE-PON subsystems at OFC March 4, 2005 Santa Clara, CA -- Fiberxon, a developer of telecommunications components, is now offering serial transceivers and subsystems designed for Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Network (GE-PON) point-to-multipoint applications. The transceivers, in SFF and SFP form factors, are compliant with IEEE 802.3ah standards, and are suitable for different system architectures in Px10 and Px20 applications.
MergeOptics unveils 2nd generation LX4 modules March 4, 2005 Berlin, Germany -- MergeOptics, a supplier of fiber-optic components and subsystems, has announced the availability of its X2 LX4 transponder. According to the company, the highly integrated optical transponder, designed for high-speed 10Gbit/sec data transmission applications, represents the second generation of LX4 standards based products.
OCP introduces 1.3 micron VCSEL-based Gigabit Ethernet transceivers March 4, 2005 Woodland Hills, CA -- Optical Communication Products, a manufacturer of fiber optic subsystems and modules for MANs, LANs, and SANs, today introduced its Gigabit Ethernet extended reach (XR) pluggable transceivers. The company says its 1.3 micron VCSEL-based product line increases the effective transmission distance of a Gigabit Ethernet link over legacy multimode fiber (MMF) to 2,000 m. The transceivers are available in SFP and GBIC form factors.
