General Cable adds plenum-rated, indoor/outdoor, buffered distribution cable
February 23, 2005 Highland Heights, KY -- General Cable, a manufacturer of copper, aluminum, and fiber-optic wire and cable products for communications, energy, industrial, and specialty applications, has expanded its NextGen line of fiber-optic cables by introducing its UL Type, ONFP-approved, plenum-rated, indoor/outdoor distribution cable.
VMETRO's FPGA-based PMC Card boasts four fiber-optic channels
February 22, 2005 Houston, TX and Oslo, Norway -- VMETRO, a developer of embedded, real-time boards and subsystems based on open standards such as VME, PCI, cPCI, and RACEway, today introduced its PMC-FPGA03F, a 64-bit PMC module. According to the company, the new module employs Xilinx Virtex-II Pro FPGA and fiber-optic communications to provide application-specific processing coupled with long-distance optical connectivity.

Mohawk rolls out line of interlocked armor fiber-optic cables
February 16, 2005 Leominster, MA -- Mohawk, a developer of fiber-optic and copper cable products, has announced its ArmorLite family of fiber-optic cables, which are manufactured with interlocked armor. The company says the cable eliminates the need for additional innerduct, saving installation time as well as space in plenum or riser pathways.

Emcore announces LX4 module in X2 form factor
February 11, 2005 Somerset, NJ -- EMCORE Corp. has released an X2 version of its 10GBase-LX4 (LX4) module, used in 10-Gigabit Ethernet applications. The X2 module is roughly half the size of the XENPAK unit and supports topside mounting on the host PCB.

Ericsson launches fusion splicer for large diameter fibers
February 8, 2005 Stockholm, Sweden--Ericsson has launched a new fusion splicer for splicing large diameter optical fibers (LDF). Building on the existing FSU 15 platform, the new splicer, known as the FSU 15 LD, automatically splices fibers up to 600 micron in diameter regardless of the fiber shape.
