Pseudowire emulation platform can migrate legacy access networks October 26, 2005 Austin, TX -- General Bandwidth announced that it has implemented its PseudoWire Emulation End-to-End (PWE3) technology in its G6 Universal Media Gateway. The company says the technology allows carriers to migrate legacy services onto video and data packet networks incorporating IPTV/FTTN and GPON platforms.
OLT transceivers target GEPONs October 25, 2005 Santa Ana, CA -- OE Solutions has introduced a family of Small Form Factor optical line terminal (OLT) transceivers for use in Gigabit Ethernet passive optical networks (GEPONs). The company says its OBL4333F product family addresses the IEEE 802.3ah Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) standard, supporting 1000BasePX10-D for 10-km applications, 1000BasePX20-D for 20-km applications, and a non-standard, extended link budget 1000BasePX20-D+ for applications beyond 20 km.
DWDM transponders boost performance, dispersion tolerance for LH, ULH optical routes October 25, 2005 Boca Raton, FL -- Siemens announced that it has introduced its third generation of fully tunable SURPASS hiT 7500 optical transponders, supporting 10-Gbit/sec capacity. The company says its SURPASS hiT DWDM platform employs Maximum Likelihood Sequence Estimator (MLSE) technology designed to dramatically improve dispersion tolerance for Long-Haul (LH) and Ultra-Long-Haul (ULH) optical routes.
Fiber-optic terminal server protects utility SCADA networks October 24, 2005 North Andover, MA -- Dymec has introduced its DS2000- TS, a "utility-hardened, serial-to-IP" fiber-optic terminal server, designed to enhance network reliability and efficiency by integrating fiber-optic interfaces on serial data connections.
LR-to-SR converter tap provides media conversion, passive access for 10-Gbit links October 20, 2005 Sunnyvale, CA -- Net Optics has introduced a network tap, designed for use in 10-Gigabit networks, that provides passive access to singlemode LR links for multimode SR devices. The company says its 10 Gigabit LR to SR Converter Tap simplifies the connection of multimode SR security and monitoring devices to long-haul singlemode LR links by combining media conversion and tap technology into a single device.
Lucent's Multimedia Access Platform supports integrated FTTX, WiMAX, DSL services October 19, 2005 Murray Hill, NJ -- Lucent Technologies today introduced its Multimedia Access Platform, an Internet Protocol (IP)-based platform that enables service provider delivery of high-bandwidth video/IPTV, Voice over IP (VoIP), and multimedia services on a mass market scale. The platform is designed to support DSL, FTTX, and WiMAX wireless broadband in a single frame.
Fiber-optic installation text targets installers, students October 18, 2005 Acworth, GA -- Pearson Technologies has announced the availability of its Successful Fiber Optic Network Installation - The Essentials, a 314-page field handbook and training text containing detailed information and instructions for installers of fiber-optic cable systems. The book also contains all knowledge required to pass all Fiber Optic Association (FOA) certification examinations.
Salira launches standards-based IEEE 802.3ah EPON platform October 17, 2005 Santa Clara, CA -- Salira Systems, a provider of Gigabit Ethernet passive optical network (GEPON) systems, has introduced its Salira 3000 Series, a standards-based product line based on the IEEE 802.3ah protocols for Ethernet PON (EPON). According to the company, the platform employs chipsets from Teknovus, and offers full capability to deliver standards-based EPON services.
Burst-mode clock-phase aligner targets BPON and GPON OLT designs October 14, 2005 Sunnyvale, CA -- Maxim Integrated Products has introduced its MAX3634, a burst-mode clock-phase aligner (CPA) for both BPON and GPON FTTH applications. According to the company, operating at 622 Mbit/sec and at 1.244 Gbit/sec within the signal's first 13 bits, the device can be implemented in either BPON or GPON optical line terminations (OLT) receivers.
K2 Optronics unveils 32-channel, 1024-QAM lasers for CATV DWDM networks October 13, 2005 Sunnyvale, CA -- K2 Optronics has launched a line of 32-channel, 1550-nm wavelength, 1024-QAM lasers for cable television (CATV) DWDM networks. The company says the lasers increase the digital capacity of Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM) transmitters up to 4x to support the growing demand for interactive applications while, at the same time, promoting a twofold increase in the packaging density of QAM transmitters.
