Galazar Networks unveils platforms targeting micro-MSPPs
August 24, 2005 Ottawa, Canada -- Galazar Networks has expanded its portfolio of multi-service access platforms by introducing its CompactNode and MicroNode devices. The company says the platforms are suited for carrier grade access and aggregation networks requiring Ethernet services and advanced SONET/SDH networking.

Transition Networks unveils new NICs
August 22, 2005 Nashville, TN -- Transition Networks today announced several new releases within its fiber-optic line of network interface cards (NIC), which offer customers lower cost, fiber connectivity to the desktop in fiber-rich LAN environments. Included in the additions are three new NIC models: 100Base-FX, 10/100Base-TX + 100Base-FX Dual Media, and 1000Base-SX/LX.

Passave hops the fence to GPON
August 22, 2005 Santa Clara, CA -- In a signal that the once tidy world of PON chips is about to get messy, Passave Inc. has become the first silicon vendor to offer SoCs for both IEEE and FSAN PON equipment. Multi-service access platform extends service life of AFC access networks
August 23, 2005 Richardson, TX -- White Rock Networks, a provider of next-generation optical transport systems for metro networks, has introduced a retrofit kit for its VLX2006 multi-service access platform. The company says the kit provides an easy upgrade path to OC-48 transport for existing AFC 240 line cabinets.

PAV's FSO system targets telcos
August 19, 2005 Liverpool, UK -- PAV recently introduced its fully digital PAVLight 2E1 free space optical (FSO) system. According to the company, supporting transmissions up to 2.048 Mbit/sec, the system incorporates two independently clocked E1 circuits transmitting data streams over a single FSO link up to distances of 4 km.

Tyco expands microscope product offering
August 17, 2005 Harrisburg, PA -- Tyco Electronics has introduced its Amp Netconnect fiber-optic microscope. According to the company, weighing less than 0.5 lb., and just over 7" long, the microscope incorporates high quality glass optics for 200x magnification, LED lighting for 100,000 hours of service, and disposable type "LR44" batteries for up to 7 hours of continuous use.

Multi-wavelength laser provides 96 DWDM channels from a single optical fiber
August 16, 2005 Ottawa, Canada -- Peleton, a developer and manufacturer of multi-wavelength lasers for applications in optical test and measurement, networking, and photonic sensing, has announced the availability of its TM3050C multi-wavelength laser source. The company says the compact, flat-spectrum, high-power laser offers significant cost-per-wavelength savings over traditional multi-wavelength test platforms.

Kaiser Optical Systems develops high throughput grating process
August 15, 2005 Ann Arbor, MI -- Kaiser Optical Systems, a provider of phase holographic (VPH) diffraction gratings, announced that it has developed a proprietary high throughput (HT) process for volume phase holographic gratings for telecom and other applications.

The Light Brigade announces FTTH course for installers/planners
August 11, 2005 Tukwila, WA -- The Light Brigade, a provider of fiber-optic training courses and materials, has announced its "FTTH/PON for Installers" course. The company says the course specifically addresses the needs of installers working on FTTH and passive optical network installations using the ITU-T G.983 standard.
