LastMile eyes metro market in 2006
December 22, 2005 Dietzenbach, Germany -- German optical networking supplier LastMile AG has announced it will focus on metro carrier applications in 2006. This year, the vendor developed several new modules and its new carrier platform, WavePilot II, to provide a metro network transport system to city and regional carriers.
German universities implement Alcatel's 40-Gbit/sec optical technology
December 22, 2005 Paris -- Alcatel last week announced the successful deployment of its 40-Gbit/sec solution connecting supercomputers at the University of Stuttgart and the University of Karlsruhe in Germany, a distance of over 105 km. According to Alcatel representatives, this is the fastest data line in Germany and ranks among the top five in the world.
BT finalizes 21CN contracts with Ciena, Huawei, Lucent, and Siemens
December 22, 2005 London -- BT today announced that it has concluded negotiations and signed contracts with four of the preferred suppliers for its £ 10 billion next-generation 21st Century Network (21CN). Contracts have been signed with Ciena, Huawei, Lucent, and Siemens, and BT expects to conclude negotiations with the remaining four preferred suppliers early in the New Year.
IEEE picks fSONA's FSO platform for conference connectivity

December 21, 2005 Vancouver, British Columbia -- Canada's Lightvision Media, an outdoor digital signage advertising network, has chosen Communications Specialties' (CSI's) Pure Digital Fiberlink 7220 series to transmit high-resolution RGB video to an immense LED screen located outside BC Place Stadium, one of Vancouver's main sports and entertainment complexes.
WilTel deploys Corrigent's packet ADM in U.S. metro core networks
December 21, 2005 San Jose, CA -- Corrigent Systems announced that its CM-100 Packet ADM (add-drop multiplexer) is being deployed by U.S. wholesale carrier WilTel Communications. WilTel says the CM-100 will form the basis for the aggregation and convergence of data and voice services over its networks.
Fujitsu adds manufacturing, R&D jobs in Texas
December 20, 2005 Richardson, TX -- Fujitsu Network Communications has transferred production of a key element of its Flashwave 4500 Multiservice Provisioning Platform (MSPP) from its factory in Oyama, Japan to its manufacturing facility in Richardson, Texas. The company says that moving its supply chain closer to its large customer base in North America will allow it to more quickly respond to rapidly changing customer requirements.
Yipes Enterprise selects Zhone's optical Ethernet platform
December 20, 2005 Oakland, CA -- Yipes Enterprise Services has selected Zhone Technologies' GigaMux 50 CWDM platform to provide globally managed Ethernet service delivery. Zhone says its GigaMux 50 platform provides flexible, entry-level connectivity for optical edge network applications, while supporting up to four high-bandwidth full-duplex services on a single fiber.
Pandatel initiates restructuring
