Tennessee utilities select Alcatel FTTH platform October 5, 2005 Dallas, TX -- Tennessee municipal utilities Morristown Utility Commission (MUC) and Bristol Tennessee Essential Services have chosen Alcatel to provide a FTTH platform to bring "user-centric" broadband access services to their customers. The platform includes Alcatel's 7340 FTTU passive optical network system, along with the company's 1692 Metrospan Edge CWDM system, and its 7700 OmniSwitch Gigabit Ethernet switch.
OEN launches FTTH IPTV services, taps Alloptic GEPON October 5, 2005 Las Vegas, NV -- Optical Entertainment Network (OEN) has announced plans to deploy FTTH services to over 1,600,000 households in Houston, Texas. The company - in partnership with European and North American vendors, including Alloptic, a provider of Gigabit Ethernet passive optical network (GEPON) platforms - plans to launch its U.S. service offering in December 2005, with European operations set to start in Q2 of 2006.
FiberCo, Level 3 facilitate optical network for Texas research, education October 4, 2005 Ann Arbor, MI -- Under an agreement with Level 3 Communications, the Lonestar Education and Research Network (LEARN), a co-operative effort of higher education institutions and organizations in Texas, has purchased the rights to over 317 route miles of dark fiber from FiberCo, a fiber holding company supporting U.S. research and higher education.
Marconi teams with Pirelli Broadband October 4, 2005 Milan, Italy -- Marconi and Pirelli Broadband Solutions announced that they have signed a co-operation agreement to deliver next-generation network transmission platforms to global telecommunications operators. Under the terms of the agreement, Marconi will provide to its customer base, as part of its photonics offering, Pirelli's City8 multi-service platform and CWDM metro access system.
CTDI acquires Zhone's eLuminant products October 4, 2005 Oakland, CA and West Chester, PA -- Zhone Technologies announced that its eLuminant products have been acquired by Communications Test Design, Inc. (CTDI). Products included in the acquisition include Zhone's eLuminant ISC-303 digital loop carrier, its VISTA Access Sonet ADM, and its RC-28D and FD-6 multiplexers.
AFL adds FlexLight's GPON platform October 4, 2005 Spartanburg, SC -- AFL Telecommunications, a supplier of fiber-optic products and services, announced that it has signed a reseller agreement with FlexLight Networks, to deploy that company's ITU-T G.984.x Gigabit passive optical network (GPON) technology. Under the agreement, AFL will add FlexLight's GPON Optimate platform to its portfolio of FTTX platforms.
Chunghwa Telecom selects Alcatel's metro Ethernet platform October 3, 2005 Madrid, Spain -- Taiwan's Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) has contracted Alcatel to supply its metro Ethernet platform to support the roll-out of a triple play network in Taiwan. CHT, a recently privatized incumbent operator, plans to bring advanced voice, video, and high-speed Internet services to more than one million Taiwanese subscribers within the next three years.
Colorado's Falcon Broadband picks Wave7's FTTP platform October 3, 2005 Las Vegas, NV -- Wave7 Optics today announced the first customer for its Trident7 optical access platform. Falcon Broadband, a CLEC based in Colorado Springs, CO, will deploy the company's Trident7 "universal PON" system to build a triple-play FTTP network that will connect 22,500 homes in the Colorado Springs area.
Meriton buys Mahi Networks October 3, 2005 Ottawa, Canada, and Madrid, Spain -- Meriton Networks today announced its acquisition of Mahi Networks, Inc. Meriton says the move is designed to combine its portfolio of high-speed optical networking systems with Mahi's Reconfigurable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer (ROADM) platforms, in order to provide telecom service providers and network operators with unified, end-to-end optical networking platforms.
Lucent's Bell Labs demonstrates 100-Gbit/sec Ethernet-over-optical transmission September 29, 2005 Murray Hill, NJ and Glasgow, Scotland -- In two papers presented to the European Conference and Exhibition on Optical Communication (ECOC) in Scotland today, Lucent Technologies' Bell Labs division announced the first reported instances of 100-Gbit/sec Ethernet-over-optical transmission. According to Lucent, the results represent a significant milestone in toward an industry migration to 100-Gbit/sec data networking.
