Nortel to provide optical networks for Russia's VimpelCom September 29, 2005 Moscow, Russia -- VimpelCom, one of Russia's largest mobile communications operators, has selected Nortel as the equipment supplier for the operator's next generation optical networks to support its wireless services. The company is to design a dedicated optical network which will help the operator to reduce its current leased line expenditures and support new, revenue generating wireless services.

When fully implemented, the core multi-service network will enable KPN to support a variety of business and consumer services such as Ethernet VPN and advanced IP services such as IPTV and video streaming.
PacketExchange to deploy Transmode metro WDM platform September 28, 2005 London, UK -- For its "London metro WDM upgrade," PacketExchange, an Internet service provider, today announced that it has selected Transmode's TM-Series optical networking platform. According to a press release, Transmode will deploy a 7-node CWDM metro ring for PacketExchange to replace its existing London WDM system.

The provider says the deployment is designed to cost-effectively upgrade its network infrastructure, allowing the community to offer state-of-the-art communications services.
u²t Photonics, Lucent launch joint 40G development program September 27, 2005 Berlin, Germany -- u²t Photonics, a provider of optoelectronic components for fiber-optic systems, has announced joint development activity with Lucent Technologies for u²t's BPRV2123 balanced photoreceiver, which last month passed verification tests conducted by Lucent's Bell Labs affiliate, for application in the company's next-generation 43-Gbit/sec DWDM system.
