Sterlite Optical picked as Siemens 'preferred supplier'
December 19, 2005 Pune, India -- India's Sterlite Optical Technologies (SOTL), a manufacturer of optical fibers and telecom cables, announced that it has been awarded "Preferred Supplier" status by Siemens, Germany.
Unity Media deploys Nortel optical Ethernet for triple play
December 19, 2005 Frankfurt, Germany -- Unity Media GmbH has deployed Nortel's Optical Ethernet network platform to support "triple play" cable services including VoIP, video-on-demand, and Internet. According to a press release, the platform consolidates the subscriber services of several cable network operators, serving more than five million customers in Germany's North Rhine-Westphalia and Hessen regions.
Corning Cable Systems announces price increases

December 15, 2005 San Jose, CA -- Cisco Systems today announced successful deployments of hardware release 5.0 for its Cisco ONS 15454 and ONS 15600 optical networking platforms at two telecommunications service providers and one Internet exchange provider, who the company says are using the technology to more effectively deploy profitable services.
Phyworks picks Jazz SiGe BiCMOS process to enable WAN, LAN, SAN, FTTH physical layer products
December 15, 2005 Newport Beach, CA and Bristol, UK -- Jazz Semiconductor and Phyworks announced that they have partnered to develop physical layer products for WAN, LAN, SAN, and FTTH applications. Phyworks chose Jazz Semiconductor's 0.35 and 0.18 micron Silicon Germanium (SiGe) BiCMOS processes to design a high-speed networking portfolio of ICs, including transimpedance amps (TIAs) and integrated laser drivers and limiting amplifiers.
France's Neo Telecoms picks ADVA to upgrade pan-European Ethernet network
December 15, 2005 Paris, France -- ADVA Optical Networking has deployed of its Fiber Service Platform (FSP) 1500 platform into the pan-European network of Neo Telecoms, an Internet Protocol (IP) service provider based in Paris, The provider's NeoWan network spans five European countries.
Nu Horizons, JDSU ink Americas distribution agreement

SEA-ME-WE4 submarine network inaugurated
December 14, 2005 Paris, France -- Alcatel announced its participation in a ceremony which took place in Dubai, UAE, hosted by Etisalat, for the inauguration of the SEA-ME-WE4 submarine cable network. After extensive provisional acceptance tests, the undersea fiber-optic cabling system, for which Alcatel was appointed turnkey responsibility with its co-contractor Fujitsu, is now ready to carry live traffic spanning southeast Asia, India, the Middle East, and Europe.
MCI expands global IP network via SEA-ME-WE4
December 14, 2005 Ashburn, VA -- MCI announced a global IP network expansion to deliver bandwidth to southeast Asia, the Middle East, and western Europe via the recently completed SEA- ME-WE4 submarine network cable system. The next undersea fiber-optic cabling system spans 20,000-km and links France to Singapore while crossing the Middle East and Indian sub-continent.
