Optical Solutions' GPON picked by Ohio's Buckland Telephone July 19, 2005 Minneapolis, MN -- Optical Solutions has secured a contract with Buckland Telephone Company of Buckland, Ohio. The rural carrier selected the company's FiberPath 500 GPON system to support a transition to IP-based services. The carrier is replacing its copper infrastructure with an advanced gigabit passive optical network (GPON) that will feature IPTV as part of a triple-play broadband services offering.
OFS fiber tapped for optical network expansion in Mexico July 19, 2005 Norcross, GA -- OFS announced that, through its distributor Tal Technologies, it has been selected by Cablemas, one of Mexico's largest Cable TV providers, to provide approximately $1 million worth of its AllWave Zero Water Peak (ZWP) optical fiber in its "Light Armor Loose Tube" cable and connectivity products. According to a press release, the contract award was made in April 2005, extending business previously given to OFS in 2004.
Calix hypes 3 telco wins for its FTTP platform July 19, 2005 Petaluma, CA -- Calix announced that three additional service providers will deploy FTTP using the company's standards-based broadband passive optical network (BPON) optical line terminal (OLT) line cards for its C7 multiservice access platform. The telcos include Bixby Telephone of Bixby, Oklahoma; Cambridge Telephone of Cambridge, Idaho; and Randolph Telephone of Asheboro, North Carolina.

Lafayette voters approve bonds to finance LUS FTTH proposal July 18, 2005 Lafayette, LA -- According to Lightwave Associate Editor Matt Vincent, on Saturday, voters in Lafayette elected to give the Lafayette Utilities System (LUS) permission to proceed with a controversial FTTH project, by a margin of 62% to 38%. Critics of the project say it will put the public utility in direct competition with private telecommunications companies such as BellSouth and Cox Communications.

Citynet deploys Infinera's digital optical networking platform July 18, 2005 Sunnyvale, CA -- Citynet, a wholesale inter-exchange carrier serving the domestic Mid-Atlantic and Midwestern markets, today announced that it has deployed Infinera's DTN platform across a significant portion of its network. The carrier says the deployment follows a nine-month lab and field trial of the company's hardware, software, and EMS components.
