Infinera mops up Big Bear's EDC technology
December 7, 2005 Sunnyvale, CA -- Infinera has acquired Big Bear Networks' electronic dispersion compensation (EDC) technology and assets. Big Bear's EDC products already support the the Infinera DTN digital optical networking system; future versions the EDC products will be developed at Infinera and integrated into Infinera ASICs, according to a press release.

Nayna Networks to acquire Abundance Networks
December 7, 2005 Santa Clara, CA -- Nayna Networks has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire privately-held Abundance Networks (Shelton, CT), with regional sales and R&D offices in Mumbai, India. Founded in 2002, Abundance is a supplier of TDM/Ethernet over SONET/SDH optical access platforms in India.

TranSwitch to acquire Mysticom
December 7, 2005 Shelton, CT -- TranSwitch, a provider of high-speed semiconductor platforms for the communications industry, has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Mysticom, a privately-held developer of multi-Gigabit Ethernet transceivers. With the acquisition, TranSwitch says it gains in-house capability to integrate high-speed SerDes and PHY technology into its future Envoy, PHAST, and EtherMap series of Carrier-class Ethernet products.

CEYX and Vitesse collaborate on laser control
December 7, 2005 San Diego and Camarillo, CA -- CEXY Technologies and Vitesse Semiconductor have introduced a laser bias and control technology for optical transceivers that improves laser accuracy, extends laser life, and lowers operating costs. The new technology incorporates CEYX's software-enabled LightSmart Control System with the Vitesse 10-Gbit/sec Laser Driver IC family.

Con Edison sells telecom unit to RCN
December 6, 2005 New York, NY -- Consolidated Edison, Inc. (Con Edison) has signed an agreement to sell 100% of its wholly owned subsidiary, Consolidated Edison Communications Holding Company, Inc., to RCN Corp., for approximately $32 million in cash.

FiberNet to provide Internap with metro Ethernet services
December 6, 2005 New York, NY -- FiberNet Telecom Group has been selected by Internap to provide low-latency metro Ethernet transport services in the New York, New Jersey, and Los Angeles markets. Under terms of an agreement, Internap, a provider of intelligent route-control platforms, will employ FiberNet's long haul and metro end- to-end network infrastructure.

Telefónica Wholesale picks Nortel to expand Latin America optical network
December 6, 2005 Buenos Aires, Argentina -- Telefónica International Wholesale Services announced that it has doubled its optical fiber network capacity throughout Latin America with an optical platform and services from Nortel.

Stratos International inks strategic FTTX supply agreement
December 5, 2005 Chicago, IL -- Stratos International has signed a strategic partnership agreement with Korean company Shinkwang for the procurement of FTTH and FTTX products. Stratos says the deal gives it exclusive access to a broad range of competitive passive components, to be offered in the North American market.

Cedar Point Communications, Wave7 Optics join to facilitate VoIP, multimedia services over FTTP
December 5, 2005 Derry, NH and Alpharetta, GA -- Seeking to enable more effective deployment of VoIP and multimedia services in FTTP networks, Cedar Point Communications and Wave7 Optics announced the completion of interoperability testing between Cedar Point's SAFARI C3 multimedia switching system and Wave7 Optics' Trident7 and Last Mile Link (LML) FTTP systems.

LightPointe, Huawei mount optical wireless deployment for Kenya Data Networks
December 5, 2005 San Diego, CA -- African telecom operator Kenya Data Networks (KDN) has deployed optical wireless links from LightPointe as part of a wireless network ring. KDN installed three LightPointe FlightStrata 155 systems in a high-capacity metropolitan ring network in the city of Nairobi. LightPointe's strategic OEM partner Huawei Technologies provided network integration, provisioning, and installation services for the deployment.
