Alcatel, Freescale Semi merge on GPON
June 8, 2005 Chicago, IL -- Alcatel and Freescale Semiconductor have collaborated to create a Gigabit PON (GPON) standards-compliant silicon platform. According to the companies, the GPON platform is designed to provide the high data rates, interoperability, and quality of service (QoS) needed to advance the adoption of triple-play voice, video, and data services, delivered to subscribers through standard FTTP networks.

Wintegra, PMC-Sierra form strategic relationship
June 7, 2005 Austin, TX -- Wintegra and PMC-Sierra have formed a strategic relationship. The companies say the collaboration focuses on providing customers with system devices for multi-service, passive optical, and metro networking, as well as for wireless service backhaul, applications. The initiative combines PMC-Sierra's portfolio of communications networking products with Wintegra's line of access packet processors and customized software.

JDS Uniphase buys Photonic Power Systems
June 7, 2005 San Jose, CA -- JDS Uniphase (JDSU) has acquired Photonic Power Systems, a provider of photonic power for the delivery of power over fiber. JDSU says the acquisition provides them with an innovative system and technology for remote powering in commercial applications.

Texas ILECs pick Allied Telesyn CWDM platform for rural triple play expansion
June 7, 2005 Bothell, WA --Allied Telesyn today announced that Livingston Telephone (LivTel), a Texas ILEC, is using the company's LightExplorer CWDM optical transport platform to expand triple play services to Lake Livingston Telephone, a smaller, neighboring carrier.

Veraz, Telco Systems complete interop testing; announce FTTH, VoBroadband collaboration
June 7, 2005 Chicago, IL -- Veraz Networks and Telco Systems have announced the completion of joint interoperability testing, as well as a collaboration to deliver FTTH and voice-over-Broadband platforms to service providers. The companies say their shared commitment to PSTN voice quality engenders superior end-to-end VoIP access and trunking connections.

Singapore's StarHub picks Ciena multiservice platform
June 6, 2005 Linthicum, MD -- Ciena announced that StarHub, an integrated info-communications service provider in Singapore, has deployed the company's DN 7000 series of multiservice edge switches to enable the provider's rollout of 3G mobile services.

Fujitsu forms OEM alliances with BTI Photonics, Hammerhead Systems
June 6, 2005 Chicago, IL -- Fujitsu Network Communications and BTI Photonics Systems today announced an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) alliance, to integrate BTI's Netstender platform into Fujitsu's Flashwave portfolio. Also today, Fujitsu and Hammerhead Systems announced an OEM agreement to integrate Hammerhead's HSX 6000 platform into the Flashwave portfolio.

Anda announces North American carrier wins
June 6, 2005 Chicago, IL -- Anda Networks, a provider of carrier-class, fiber and copper-based access networking platforms, today announced that Group Telecom (a Bell Canada company), Rogers Wireless, and Expedient Communications have deployed the company's EtherTone products, in order to deliver converged broadband data and voice services for customers over standard Ethernet connections.

Report: Optical hardware market down 10% in Q1 '05; metro WDM switches to jump 247% by '08
June 6, 2005 San Jose CA --Worldwide optical network hardware revenue decreased 10% to $2.3 billion between Q4 of 2004 and Q2 of 2005, a drop that was anticipated after the market surged 21% between Q3 and Q4 in 2004, according to a report by Infonetics Research.

TIA FOLS updates cost model for estimating LAN infrastructure costs
