JDS Uniphase jumps into triple-play testing with Acterna acquisition
May 24, 2005 Germantown, MD, and San Jose -- JDS Uniphase yesterday entered into a definitive agreement to acquire privately held test and measurement company Acterna for $760 million. According to JDS Uniphase representatives, the acquisition will accelerate the company's path to profitability as well as enable it to tap into the lucrative market for triple-play testing, reports Senior News Editor Meghan Fuller.

Russia's Rostelecom bolsters optical network using Alcatel platform
May 23, 2005 Paris, France -- Alcatel and Russian national long-distance operator Rostelecom have signed a contract to modernize the operator's optical fiber network in the south of the Russian federation. The operator says implementing the project will allow it to increase the capacity and efficiency of its existing network in order to deliver triple play broadband services to one of the most developed and expanding regions in the Russian federation.

JDS Uniphase to sell Ottawa subsystems facility
May 23, 2005 San Jose, CA -- JDS Uniphase (JDSU) has agreed to sell its 912,000 square foot subsystems facility in Ottawa, Canada, to construction and management company Minto Developments. The transaction, expected to close in the current fiscal quarter, includes a lease back option to JDSU for up to 18 months, or a minimum of 12 months. At the buyer's request, the financial terms are not being disclosed.

North Dakota co-op picks Optical Solutions' GPON
May 23, 2005 Minneapolis, MN -- Optical Solutions today announced that North Dakota's Red River Rural Telephone Association, an independent telephone cooperative, has selected the company's FiberPath 500 GPON FTTP system to replace aging copper infrastructure in several of the co-op's rural exchanges.
