ZTE to install DWDM network in Bulgaria May 9, 2005 Shenzhen, China -- ZTE, a provider of optical transport products, will install a DWDM network in Bulgaria, under terms of a contract announced today with Bulgarian fixed line operator Cabletel. According to a press release, the 500-km network will connect Bulgaria with Turkey and Romania, and will support 2.5-Gbit/sec and 10-Gbit/sec transmissions.

FiberNet, Con Ed nix purchase agreement May 5, 2005 New York, NY -- FiberNet and Consolidated Edison (Con Ed) have agreed to a joint termination and mutual release of the stock purchase agreement entered into by the parties on December 10, 2004. The agreement contemplated FiberNet's purchase of all of issued and outstanding shares of Consolidated Edison Communications Holding Company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Con Ed. The termination of the agreement is due to the parties' inability to resolve certain contractual issues.

Report finds optical networking market batters MEMS suppliers May 4, 2005 Ann Arbor, MI -- Revenues for microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) devices sold into the optical networking market declined by 27.2% from 2003 to 2004, although the level of unit shipments remained essentially flat, according to a report by EmTech Research. Once considered the "golden child" of telecom, the report says that suppliers developing MEMS-based components for optical networking applications continue to be battered by poor market conditions.
