Infonetics: Optical hardware market holds steady at $2.7B in 3Q05
December 2, 2005 San Jose, CA -- According to a report from Infonetics Research, the worldwide optical network hardware market had a flat third quarter, holding at $2.7 billion, but is expected to finish up 16% for the year.

Finisar acquires Big Bear Networks' 10G, 40G transponder assets
December 2, 2005 Sunnyvale, CA -- Finisar, a provider of Gigabit fiber-optic platforms for data networks, has acquired all of the optical transponder assets of Big Bear Networks, for $1.9 million in cash.

Lynx to protect Rostelecom's critical DWDM backbone
December 2, 2005 Calabasas Hills, CA -- Rostelecom, Russia's national telecommunications operator, has placed a major order with Lynx Photonic Networks. Under terms of a sales agreement, in the event of link failures, Lynx will provide Rostelecom with guaranteed protection of the operator's critical DWDM backbone, to ensure fast network recovery time.

NeoPhotonics China achieves TL 9000 telecom quality conformance
December 1, 2005 San Jose, CA -- NeoPhotonics, a global supplier of fiber-optic components and modules solutions for FTTX and other broadband networks, announced that its facility in Shenzhen, China has received TL 9000 certification. TL 9000 compliance is a requirement for providing network infrastructure to most global telecommunication services providers, including the U.S. RBOCs.

China Telecom selects Cisco carrier routing platform
December 1, 2005 Beijing, China -- China Telecom will adopt Cisco's CRS-1 Carrier Routing System to integrate the core network nodes of its ChinaNet Internet Protocol (IP) service network in China. With this seventh upgrade of its backbone network, China Telecom says it is continuing its transformation from a network carrier into an "integrated information service provider."

JDSU completes acquisition of Agility Communications
December 1, 2005 San Jose, CA -- JDSU has completed its acquisition of Agility Communications, a provider of widely tunable laser products for optical networks. According to a press release, JDSU paid approximately $67 million for the privately-held Agility, comprising approximately $57 million in stock and $10 million in cash.

Major U.S. carrier extends Telco Systems' multiplexer contract
November 30, 2005 Foxboro, MA -- Telco Systems, a provider of carrier-class transport and access platforms IP and TDM networks, announced that a major U.S. carrier has extended Telco's contract as the sole provider of DS1 to DS3/STS-1 multiplexer equipment. The contract, initially awarded in 2002, will extend an additional two years.

Canada's SaskTel adopts Cisco IP NGN for service expansion
November 30, 2005 Toronto, Canada -- Cisco Systems today announced that SaskTel, the leading full service communications provider in Saskatchewan, is driving an expansion of its advanced services, including its MAX IP TV offering, by furthering developing its Cisco Internet Protocol Next-Generation Network (IP NGN) platform featuring Cisco's CRS-1 carrier routing system and IOS XR software.

Nortel GM: 'Optical is out of the penalty box.'

Molex, LumaCon to partner on optical interconnect technology
November 30, 2005 Lisle, IL -- Molex and LumaCon have entered into a definitive agreement providing Molex sole rights to manufacture, distribute, and sell small form factor (SFF) connectors utilizing LumaCon's patent-pending LumaCore technology. LumaCon says that connectors based on its technology are ideal for applications requiring multi-fiber optical interconnects where environmental extremes push the envelope of traditional optical interconnect solutions.
