Fabrinet acquires JDSU ops in Fuzhou, China April 28, 2005 San Francisco, CA -- Fabrinet has announced its intention to purchase JDS Uniphase's (JDSU's) manufacturing facilities in Fuzhou, China. Under the arrangement, Fabrinet will acquire all assets and operations related to the Fuzhou plant, including R&D and the manufacture of products such as crystals and precision optics. The facilities transfer is expected to be completed prior to June 30, 2005. Specific terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
BT announces 21CN suppliers April 28, 2005 London, UK -- BT today announced selection of its preferred suppliers for its all-IP 21st Century Network (21CN) network transformation program, toward which the carrier expects to invest up to £10 billion over the next five years. According to the carrier, the selection announcement culminates a two year competitive process of discussions and negotiations with over 300 potential technology suppliers from around the world.

BTI Photonic to supply metro network in Jiangsu, China April 27, 2005 Ottawa, Canada -- BTI Photonic Systems, a provider of photonic layer, metro connectivity-over-fiber systems, has signed a distribution agreement with Effect Technologies, a reseller of communication systems in China's Jiangsu province, to implement a metro and WDM infrastructure for the province's businesses. The companies say the commercial agreement furthers BTI's inroads into China, while providing the reseller with BTI's Netstender products.
FTTP rising, but still lags competitors, says report April 27, 2005 Scottsdale, AZ -- FTTP availability in the U.S. will grow from 1.9 million premises in 2004 to 11.8 million in 2009, according to a report from In-Stat, a technology research firm. According to the firm, while 11.8 million premises passed by fiber-optic cable represent considerable growth, the figure is still a small percentage of the nation's households and businesses. The firm estimates that there are presently over 110 million households in the U.S.
Polychromix obtains $3M in venture funds April 27, 2005 Wilmington, MA -- Polychromix, a developer of modular optical subsystem platforms for optical networking and molecular spectroscopy, has secured $3 million in additional venture funding. The new investor, Lighthouse Capital Partners, joins Siemens Venture Capital, Seed Capital Partners (Softbank), Vanguard Ventures, and others in bringing total investment in the company to approximately $18 million.
Teleglobe, Saudi Telecom join to initiate Middle East IP exchange April 26, 2005 Hamilton, Bermuda -- In Saudi Arabia, Teleglobe and Saudi Telecom Company (STC) have established the Middle East IP Exchange (ME-IEX) to serve Middle Eastern and Arabian Gulf ISPs and carriers. The ME-IEX supports peering arrangements among ISPs, and currently carries traffic for six customers from Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Yemen.
Indiana Fiber Network selects Tekelec's SS7 signaling platform April 26, 2005 Morrisville, NC -- Indiana Fiber Network (IFN) has signed a contract to deploy Tekelec's EAGLE 5 Signaling Applications System (SAS).
