CyOptics buys TriQuint's optoelectronics ops
April 15, 2005 Hillsboro, OR and Lehigh Valley, PA -- TriQuint Semiconductor and CyOptics have announced an agreement whereby TriQuint will sell its optoelectronics operations in Breinigsville, Pennsylvania and Matamoros, Mexico, to CyOptics, a private optical components manufacturer headquartered in Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania.

ADVA joins Internet2 consortium
April 14, 2005 Mahwah, NJ and Munich, Germany -- ADVA Optical Networking recently announced its corporate membership in Internet2, a U.S.- advanced networking consortium led by the research and higher education communities. The company joins more than 60 other technology companies and service providers in working with the consortium's university and government members to develop and deploy network services and capabilities for academic research and the Internet community at large.

ECI obtains China optical tech firm
April 14, 2005 Petah Tikva, Israel -- ECI Telecom today announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire the optical activities and technology of China's Eastern Communications, for an undisclosed amount. The operations of the acquired unit will be merged with the company's existing joint venture, Hangzhou ECI Telecommunications. The acquisition broadens ECI's current multi-service provisioning platform (MSPP) product line.

Report shows SONET carriers grappling with pricing, competitive pressures
April 14, 2005 Palo Alto, CA -- A report from Frost & Sullivan says that, since the dot com era, the competitive landscape of the North American telecom industry has drastically altered, with regulatory changes spurring RBOCs to expand into new markets, while some older companies, fresh from Chapter 11 restructuring, provide strong competition to established participants. The report reveals a similar situation occurring within the North American market for wholesale SONET services.

ADC teams with D&E to upgrade PA college's fiber infrastructure
April 13, 2005 Minneapolis, MN -- Franklin & Marshall College of Lancaster, Pennsylvania has upgraded its fiber network infrastructure using ADC's TrueNet structured cabling system. The upgrade, installed by telecommunications integrator D&E Communications, provides the residential liberal arts college with future bandwidth capacity, according to a press release.

Itochu boosts NanoOpto's Series C financing
April 13, 2005 Somerset, NJ -- Itochu Corp. has invested $1 million in NanoOpto's Series C round financing. The company is a developer of proprietary nano-fabrication technology for optical components and systems. The investment adds to a previously announced $12 million in Series C round venture financing led by First Analysis, a private growth-equity investor. Total financing raised by the company to date is $43.3 million.

BES taps Alloptic to supply Australian FTTH project
April 13, 2005 Livermore, CA -- Broadcast Engineering and Services (BES), a fiber-optic network provider in Australia, has selected Alloptic, a provider of Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Networks (GEPON) platforms, as the preferred vendor for BES's FTTH network serving estate developments near the city of Perth. According to a press release, BES expects to bring 4,000 FTTH customers online by the end of 2007.

Qwest mounts Denver FTTH deployment
April 13, 2005 Denver, CO -- Qwest has installed FTTH technology at RidgeGate, a planned, mixed-use, urban residential community in Denver's southern metro area. The FTTH deployment is the carrier's first, offering residents high-speed data capabilities and television programming, as well as local and long-distance telephone services.

Mintera secures $18.5M Series B financing
April 12, 2005 Lowell, MA -- Mintera today announced an $18.5 million Series B round of venture capital financing, co-led by new investors Polaris Venture Partners and RRE Ventures. Existing investors also participating in the round included Court Square Ventures, Star Ventures, and Portview Communications Partners. The company also announced that Bob Metcalfe, general partner at Polaris Ventures, and Rich McGinn, general partner at RRE Ventures, will join Mintera's board of directors.

MEF launches Carrier Ethernet certification program
April 12, 2005 Irvine, CA -- The Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF), a global industry alliance of approximately 70 organizations including telecommunications service providers, network equipment and software manufacturers, semiconductors vendors, and testing organizations, today announced the launch of its certification program to support what it calls the explosive demand for incipient "Carrier Ethernet" services.
