Com Hem picks Transmode's optical network platform April 12, 2005 Stockholm, Sweden -- Com Hem, an Internet and CATV operator in Sweden, has selected Transmode's network transmission equipment for use in its fiber core network and service platform, in order to deliver broadband services including Internet access, IP telephony, and data backup. According to a press release, the original order was placed with Lumentis, which recently merged with Transmode to form one of Scandinavia's largest vendors of optical network platforms.
Metro Ethernet revenue to double between '04 - '08, finds report April 12, 2005 San Jose, CA -- Worldwide metro Ethernet equipment revenue reached $3.8 billion in 2004, and is projected to double to $7.6 billion by 2008, according to a report from Infonetics Research, an international market research and consulting firm covering the data networking and telecommunications industries. The report finds metro Ethernet ports growing strongly as well, increasing 433% between 2004 and 2008.
ARRIS to market Amedia's QoStream products April 11, 2005 Suwanee, GA and Holmdel, NJ -- ARRIS and Amedia Networks have jointly entered into an agreement whereby the two companies will develop technical and commercial initiatives, and whereby Amedia's QoStream products will be globally marketed as integral components of ARRIS's Ethernet optical access network product offering.
Huawei selects BroadLight's PON technology for global fiber deployments April 11, 2005 Mountain View, CA -- Huawei Technologies has selected BroadLight's PON platform for both central office optical line terminal (OLT) and customer premise optical network terminal (ONT) equipment, including ITU-T PON controllers, transceivers, and software. Telesur picks Nortel for network upgrade in Suriname April 8, 2005 Paramaribo, Suriname -- Telesur, the principal telecommunications service provider in Suriname, has selected Nortel to expand and upgrade its nationwide wireline and wireless networks to increase capacity, improve quality of service, and enable delivery of a large suite of advanced services. The agreement includes deployment of Nortel's Optical Multiservice Edge (OME) 6500 platform, which will initially quadruple the capacity of the provider's backbone transmission network.
Picolight completes $13M funding round April 8, 2005 Boulder, CO -- Picolight, a designer and manufacturer of optical transceivers and components, has raised $13 million in its latest funding round. Coral Capital Management led the round, joining previous investors BA Venture Partners and Vesbridge Partners to complete the new financing. The company says it seeks to close another $4 million to $7 million in funding during the second quarter of 2005 for various product expansion activities.
fSONA and LaserBit sign bi-lateral distribution agreement April 8, 2005 Las Vegas, NV -- fSONA Systems, a provider of optical wireless platforms, and LaserBit Communications, a developer and manufacturer of laser-based, free-space optical (FSO) communications equipment, have announced that they are joining forces to globally deliver a comprehensive selection of optical wireless products. The strategic agreement allows both companies to sell their complete, combined product portfolio.
Exar acquires assets of Infineon's optical networking line April 7, 2005 Fremont, CA -- Exar has entered into a definitive agreement with Infineon Technologies wherein Exar has agreed to pay cash for a significant part of Infineon's Optical Networking (ON) business unit. The acquisition includes assets relating to Infineon's multi-rate TDM framer and fiber channel-over-SONET/SDH resilient packet ring (RPR) products, as well as certain intellectual property for its data-over-SONET products. The transaction is shortly expected to close.
