Optical networking market headed for double-digit growth in 2005, says Ovum-RHK November 22, 2005 London, UK -- Ovum-RHK recently released its analysis of third quarter 2005 optical networking spending. According to the report, spending was essentially flat sequentially in what is typically a down quarter. But on an even more positive note, the firm says that year-over-year spending grew nearly 30%.

Pandatel, Dowslake Microsystems merge November 21, 2005 Hamburg, Germany and Santa Clara, CA -- Pandatel, a publicly traded company at the German Prime standard market and a specialist in Ethernet and optical networking, announced that Dowslake Venture Ltd., a major shareholder of Dowslake Microsystems, has acquired 29% of Pandatel shares from Augusta AG (Frankfurt). According to a press release, Dowslake Venture intends to purchase the remaining 20.98% of Pandatel stock from Augusta subject to regulatory approval.

ZTE set to complete massive optical transmission network November 21, 2005 Shenzhen, China -- One of the world's largest optical transmission networks is to be completed in China following an agreement for its second construction phase between ZTE, a global provider of telecommunications equipment and networking platforms, and China Mobile, that nation's largest mobile operator. The approximately 25,000-km network, set for completion by March 2006, will include 521 network nodes covering 18 provinces in western and southern China.

Ethernet switch market on track for record revenues, reports Dell'Oro November 17, 2005 Redwood City, CA -- A recent report from Dell'Oro Group says that the Ethernet Switch market in 2005 is on track to surpass the previous market revenue peak in 2000, after posting another strong quarter of revenue growth. The report says that revenues grew 7% sequentially in the third quarter of 2005, following an 8% sequential increase in the second quarter.
10G market to reach $4.8B by 2010, says report November 17, 2005 Charlottesville, VA -- According to a report from CIR, the market for 10-Gbit/sec ports on telecom and datacom equipment will grow from $2.1 billion in 2006 to $4.8 billion by 2010. The report says this figure will represent growth from 221,000 ports to 1.6 million ports shipped over the same period, as 10 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) follows earlier Ethernet technologies into its "mass market" phase.
