Inphi intros differential encoders for DPSK, duobinary precoding
July 26, 2006 Westlake Village, CA -- Inphi Corp. has introduced differential encoders in a low-cost quad flat no-lead (QFN) plastic package. The company's 13650DE and 13651DE single-chip Differential Phase Shift Keying (DPSK) or Duobinary encoders operate up to 12.5 Gbits/sec.

Corning Cable Systems expands gel-free cable offering
July 25, 2006 Hickory, NC -- Corning Cable Systems, part of Corning Inc.'s Telecommunications segment, has added another product to its portfolio of gel-free outdoor cables. SST-UltraRibbon Gel-Free cable is a high-fiber-count outdoor ribbon cable in which dry water-blocking materials have completely replaced the gels previously used to provide a 100 percent gel-free cable. The cable is available in fiber counts of 288, 360, and 432.

AMCC expands dual CDR porfolio for 10-Gbit/sec XFPs
July 24, 2006 Sunnyvale, CA -- Applied Micro Circuits Corp. (AMCC) today introduced the S19256, a 10-Gbit/sec dual Clock Data Recovery (CDR) device designed for use in short reach and intermediate reach XFP modules. The S19256 is based on the company's existing S19233 dual CDR, offering customers a high-performance solution with a modified feature set for reduced power, say company representatives.

Quake launches new chip for 10-GbE SFP+
July 24, 2006 Ottawa and Santa Clara, CA -- Quake Technologies today announced the availability of the QT2035S, which it claims is the industry's first integrated physical layer IC for all SFP+ 10-Gigabit Ethernet (10-GbE) applications. According to the company, the advanced signal processing technology in its chip will reduce the cost of 10G optics to less than a quarter the price of today's solutions.

MapInfo enhances location intelligence application
July 19, 2006 Troy, NY -- Location intelligence solutions provider MapInfo Corp. today introduced MapInfo Professional version 8.5, the first version of the company's location intelligence application with Web services connectivity. CyOptics intros 4-Gbit/sec Fibre Channel TOSA for 80 km, ships 2.5-Gbit/sec DWDM SFP TOSA
July 18, 2006 Breinigsville, PA -- CyOptics Inc. today announced the availability of its transmit optical subassembly (TOSA) for 4-Gbit/sec Fibre Channel transceiver applications up to 80 km. The 4-Gbit/sec Fibre Channel standard boosts the performance of storage area networks (SANs) by doubling the speed while maintaining backward-compatibility with 1- and 2-Gbit/sec systems.

"Fiber Optic Technicians Manual" published in Spanish
July 13, 2006 Fallbrook, CA -- The Fiber Optic Association (FOA), the non-profit professional society of fiber optics, has published what it claims is the first fiber-optic textbook translated into Spanish. FOA officials say the Spanish textbook will assist in the education of fiber-optic technicians and promote the use of fiber optics in Spanish-speaking countries, one of the goals of the organization.
