Ciena touts hybrid ROADM technology
June 5, 2006 Linthicum, MD -- Ciena today announced the addition of Dynamic Wavelength Routing capabilities to its CN 4200 FlexSelect Advanced Services Platform, creating what it claims is the only offering that uses a hybrid electrical and optical ROADM design to combine whole and sub-wavelength switching in one platform.

June 5, 2006 Chicago, IL -- Lambda OpticalSystems today introduced the LambdaNode 5000 Optical Services Platform, the newest member of its LambdaNode product family. Based on the Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture (AdvancedTCA), the LambdaNode 5000 platform incorporates wavelength selective switching (WSS) to provide switching capability that extends from two-degree ring topologies to multi-degree mesh topologies.
Sumitomo Electric Lightwave demos ribbon drop cable for FTTx

Sumitomo says it designed the cable to allow for mass fusion splicing, quicker and easier gel-free cable entry, and faster fiber access through easy-peel ribbon technology, which increases the speed and number of both fusion splicing and connectorized terminations.

ImmenStar launches integrated EPON switch chipset
May 31, 2006 Santa Clara, CA -- Two-year-old Silicon Valley startup ImmenStar today announced what it claims is the industry's first fully integrated high- density EPON switch chipset. Dubbed MuLan, the EPON switch chipset already is being shipped in volume to system vendors in five countries: the U.S., China, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan.

Teknovus and Furukawa announce GBIC ONU
May 30, 2006 Petaluma, CA -- Teknovus announced that Furukawa has developed a GEPON optical networking unit (ONU) with a GBIC form-factor based on Teknovus's TK3713 ONU chip. Furukawa's ONU product, the FITELwaveAG8, enables switch and router vendors to expand into the fiber-to-the-business (FTTB) and fiber-based multi-tenant unit (MTU) markets.
