FLASHWAVE 6100 puts Fujitsu in the GPON market
May 30, 2006 Richardson, TX -- Fujitsu Network Communications Inc. has announced the availability of its new FLASHWAVE 6100 Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) offering. The Fujitsu GPON family consists of the FLASHWAVE 6100 Optical Line Terminal (OLT) and a series of FLASHWAVE 6100 Optical Network Terminals (ONTs). A "hybrid" architecture that leverages CWDM promises the ability to increase bandwidth per user by 8X.

Novera Optics unveils DWDM PON product

Polatis to demo optical switching at GlobalComm 2006
May 24, 2006 Boston -- Optical switch supplier Polatis will showcase the use of its switches in carrier network applications next month at GlobalComm 2006. RSoft and Liekki add new fiber laser module for RSoft's OptSim
May 24, 2006 Ossining, NY and Lohja, Finland -- RSoft Design Group, provider of photonics design automation software, and Liekki Corp., supplier of highly doped optical fibers, have announced a new module for RSoft's optical communication simulation platform, OptSim, that incorporates fiber laser and amplifier subsystems designed with Liekki Application Designer (LAD).

Metrobility debuts Carrier Ethernet access roadmap and product

Ekinops introduces 10G LAN PHY to 10G WAN PHY protocol converter
May 22, 2006 Paris -- Ekinops has unveiled its new 10-Gbit/sec transponder and protocol converter. The PM 1001 is the most recent addition to the Ekinops PM Series. The Ekinops PM Series is a multi-service aggregation and transport platform that enables carriers to aggregate and transport high-speed services onto a single wavelength at 10- or 2.5-Gbit/sec wire speeds.

Liekki intros large-mode-area erbium fiber family
May 18, 2006 Lohja, Finland -- Liekki has developed a new large-mode-area (LMA) erbium double-clad fiber. Marketed as the Er60-20/125DC, the fiber features high erbium concentration for efficient absorption, a large 20-µm core with low NA of 0.07 to support good beam quality, and 125-µm octagonal-shaped cladding for ease of use. The fiber demonstrates >30% slope efficiency with 980-nm pumping with efficient lasing bandwidth extending up to 1.6 µm.
