Xelerated, Dune jointly launch Metro Ethernet switch
May 4, 2006 Santa Clara and Sunnyvale, CA -- Xelerated and Dune Networks have introduced a jointly developed, production-ready Metro Ethernet switch based on Xelerated's X11 network processor and Metro Ethernet application and Dune Networks' FAP20V traffic manager.
ADC launches 'data center-grade' infrastructure platform

Indoor/outdoor plenum cable features up to 144 fiber count options
May 3, 2006 Claremont, NC -- CommScope has expanded its Uniprise optical fiber non-conductive plenum (OFNP) line of loose tube cabling to include up to 144-fiber count options. The company says the plenum-rated stranded loose tube cable is designed with a totally dry construction, utilizing the company's Arid-Core technology under the outer jacket, as well as dry buffer tubes with water-blocking tapes and yarns to prevent moisture migration.
2-part epoxy supports optical clarity, low exotherm for large casting apps
May 2, 2006 Hackensack, NJ -- Master Bond's Polymer System EP37-3FLSP is a newly developed, optically clear, flexible, low viscosity 2-part epoxy system for large volume castings. The company says the epoxy features a long working life and low exotherm during cure, as well as very low shrinkage and excellent dimensional stability.
Vitesse demonstrates 400-mW Gigabit Ethernet PHY
May 1, 2006 Las Vegas, NV -- At the Interop 2006 show, Vitesse Semiconductor announced that it has successfully demonstrated a 400mW integrated Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) PHY that the company says lowers power consumption by up to 50% compared to previous devices. Tested over full 100 m cable lengths with continuous traffic, the company says its prototype "super low power" GbE PHY will become the foundation for future products in its SimpliPHY and SparX families.
Limiting amplifier features programmable decision threshold
April 27, 2006 San Jose, CA -- Micrel has introduced the SY88353BL, which the company calls a low power, high-performance, 3.2 Gbit/sec limiting post amplifier optimized for WDM systems; the device is also suitable for Gigabit Ethernet, 1X and 2X Fiber Channel, and OC-3/STM-1 through OC-48/STM-16 applications.
ADC KRONE intros fiber cable management system
April 27, 2006 Minneapolis, MN -- ADC KRONE, the EMEA affiliate of ADC, has announced the availability in EMEA of its RiserGuide cable management system, part of the company's FiberGuide product family. The company says the RiserGuide system, comprised of a variety of components and based on the company's Snap-Fit platform, is designed to provide flexible cable management and tool-free installation for both horizontal and vertical rack riser applications.
Nuphoton's EDFA features extended operating temperature
April 27, 2006 Murrieta, CA -- Nuphoton Technologies, a provider of fiber-optic amplifiers and fiber lasers, has released its NP2000-XT, an Erbium doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) that supports an extended operating temperature range of - 40 to + 85°C - beyond the Telecordia specification of -5 to + 65°C.
Civcom slashes cost of ULR transponders
April 26, 2006 Petah Tikva, Israel -- Civcom, a developer and manufacturer of optoelectronic components, modules, and subsystems, announced a reduction in the cost of its 10-Gbit/sec Ultra Long Reach (ULR) line of transponders. The company says the cost reduction comes in an effort to match the market's prices for competitive Long Reach (LR) transponders.
Firecomms launches plastic fiber-optic transceiver
April 26, 2006 Cork, Ireland -- Firecomms says its EDL300 series of Fast Ethernet fiber-optic transceivers (FOTs) are designed to provide Fast Ethernet communication links over plastic optical fiber (POF), which the company calls a low-cost optical alternative to copper cabling.
