Optiwave intros OptiSystem 5.0 April 19, 2006 Ottawa, Ontario -- Optiwave Systems, a provider of optical component and system design tools, has released its OptiSystem 5.0, the latest version of its optical communication system design suite. The company says the release delivers a number of features to facilitate the simulation and design of emerging optical communication technologies including free space optics (FSO) and radio over fiber (RoF) applications for wireless mesh network designs.
Centillium expands FTTP semiconductor portfolio April 13, 2006 Fremont, CA -- Centillium Communications has expanded its FTTP semiconductor product portfolio, aimed at the market for optical access transceivers. The company's integrated 2.5-Gbit/sec optical transceiver chipset families, dubbed Zeus 2 and Apollo 2, target GPON, EPON, SONET and enterprise applications.
Avanex develops ultra-thin EDFA module April 11, 2006 Fremont, CA -- Avanex, a provider of "intelligent" photonic devices for optical networks, has introduced what it calls "the industry's thinnest" erbium doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) module. The company says its PureGain 400 EDFA is only 7.5-mm in thickness, over 35% thinner than any amplifier previously available from Avanex.
Telecom Engineering intros passive 10G WDM products April 10, 2006 Golden Valley, MN -- Telecom Engineering recently introduced its passive 10-Gbit/sec WDM products. The company's TIP product line consists of passive DWDM, CWDM, OADM, cross band 1310/1550 WDM, and bi-directional coupler products. Designed for both metro and long-haul fiber-optic networks, the company says the products allow users to easily and economically increase fiber span capacities.
Sterlite Optical unveils FTTH-optimized optical fiber April 6, 2006, Mumbai, India -- Sterlite Optical Technologies, an India-based global provider of optical fiber and telecom cables, has launched its DOF Lite (Metro), Bend Lite OF optical fiber products, aimed at FTTH applications.
Avanex unveils low voltage 10-Gbit/sec LiNbO3 modulator April 5, 2006 Fremont, CA -- Avanex has introduced its Ultra-Low Drive F10-U Lithium Niobate (LiNbO3) modulators. The company says the modulators reduce the drive voltage to less than 3 V while maintaining the "excellent characteristics" of the company's F10 standard 10-Gbit/sec modulators.
LX4 ROSA integrates TIA, limiting amp April 4, 2006 Schaumburg, IL -- Omron Electronic Components recently announced the availability of its P1RX-LX4TL receiver optical sub-assembly (ROSA), which features a transimpedance amplifier (TIA) and limiting amplifier integrated into a very small package measuring 10.8(w) x 15.6(d) x 6.8(h)-mm. The company says the ROSAs are ideal for applications where space is limited, such as within X2 form-factor LX4 transceiver modules.
Reflex Photonics launches initial products April 3, 2006 Montreal, Canada -- Reflex Photonics recently announced the availability of its initial products. "We are focused on the enterprise/data center and telecom optical switch/router spaces, with inter-system connectivity of up to 1000 feet," says Gary Moskovitz, the company's president and CEO. "We are currently sampling our InterBoard 12 channel, 40-Gbit/sec line of pluggable, industry compatible, SNAP 12 MSA transmitter and receiver modules."
Conexant expands PON semiconductor portfolio March 30, 2006 Newport Beach, CA -- Conexant Systems has expanded its broadband access product portfolio by introducing a family of system-on-chip (SoC) controllers for passive optical networks (PON).
The company's CX9520X "Xenon II" family of controllers is designed for optical network units (ONUs) on the client-side of FTTP, multi-dwelling-unit (MDU) and FTTN EPON/GEPON applications.
