New Products 2006 P26

Athermal AWG targets outdoor WDM, CATV and FTTX installations March 7, 2006 Peachtree City, GA -- Furukawa Electric has developed an Athermal Arrayed Wave Guide (AWG) that the company says is robust enough for outdoor fiber-optic communications installations yet precise enough to avoid unwanted increases in insertion loss or crosstalk.
Quake, Greenfield partner on metro Ethernet reference design March 6, 2006 Santa Clara, CA -- Quake Technologies, a supplier of 10-Gbit/sec Ethernet physical layer ICs, has introduced a Metro Ethernet reference design in partnership with Greenfield Networks, a provider of high-performance silicon for Ethernet switching platforms.
Glimmerglass unveils low profile intelligent optical switches March 6, 2006 Hayward, CA -- Glimmerglass, a provider of intelligent optical switches for light stream management, has introduced its "low profile, high density" System 600. According to the company, at approximately half the height of its current product line, the new product represents a dramatic improvement for developers of both commercial networks and mission-critical networking systems for government and defense applications.
Opnext to showcase expanded portfolio at OFC/NFOEC 2006 March 3, 2006 Eatontown, NJ -- Opnext announced that it will showcase an expanded portfolio of optical components at next week's OFC/NFOEC 2006 in Anaheim, CA. Features of the expanded product line, according to the company, include increased thermal tolerance, tunability, and 10-Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) transmission over legacy fiber.
VOA features polarization maintaining fiber March 2, 2006 Newark, CA -- Lightconnect, a supplier of MEMS optical components, has introduced a variable optical attenuator with polarization maintaining fiber for power control and receiver protection in next generation optical networks. The company says its FVOA5200 features outstanding reliability and uses the same compact package as the company's Lightconnect FVOA5000, a MEMS VOA which has passed over 5000 hours of damp heat testing, according to the company.
Modulight adds wavelengths to fiber pigtailed laser diode lines February 28, 2006 Tampere, Finland -- Modulight's 1550-nm FP and DFB laser diodes for analog applications are based on the company's analog 1310-nm FP and DFB laser diodes. The company says these long-wavelength lasers can be combined with the 1310-nm lasers for bi-directional transmission over single fiber, or can be used independently for longer span lengths than can be obtained with 1310-nm.
DuPont Photonics unveils 40-channel, PLC-based ROADM February 27, 2006 Wilmington, MA -- DuPont Photonics Technologies has introduced its iROAD 4000, an integrated 40-channel reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexer (ROADM) designed to provide dynamic remote provisioning of add/drop nodes in metropolitan optical networks. The company says the device enables high wavelength management flexibility at reduced levels of capex and opex.
4-channel, 10G media converter features MPO cable assemblies February 23, 2006 Sunnyvale, CA -- Fujitsu Components America has released a 4-channel, copper-to-fiber media converter that the company says extends optical bandwidth transport of 12.5 Gbit/sec to a maximum distance of 300 m with low-power dissipation when used with a media detect circuit. The company says the device allows IT managers to use a single, compact I/O interface through a single port for either copper or optical signal transmission.
Xtellus intros 'turnkey' ROADM modules February 22, 2006 Morris Plains, NJ -- Xtellus, a supplier of advanced ROADM technology for the metro and long-haul optical equipment markets, recently introduced its XRM family of turnkey ROADM modules. The company says the integrated ROADM modules will allow optical networking system suppliers to more effectively build advanced ROADM network elements, without the performance penalties imposed by competitive module designs.
Tellabs intros 1RU MSPP February 16, 2005 Barcelona, Spain -- Tellabs has introduced its 6325 edge node multi-service provisioning platform (MSPP), which the company calls a fully redundant, carrier-class MSPP designed for deployment in access or metro network locations for both wireless and wireline applications. The company says the platform fits into one standard rack unit (44-mm) and eliminates the need for service providers to choose between cost and reliability.
