SONET/SDH transport processor cores target FPGA, ASIC networking apps February 15, 2006 Rochester, NY -- Xelic, a provider of networking intellectual property and engineering design services, recently introduced its family of SONET/SDH transport processor cores, designed for integration into FPGA and ASIC networking devices. The transport processor cores are available for OC-3 (XCS3F), OC-12 (XCS12F), OC-48 (XCS48F), OC-192 (XCS192F), and OC-768 (XCS768F) data rates.
Eblana Photonics intros LX4 laser diode series February 8, 2006 Dublin, Ireland -- Eblana Photonics has introduced a series of single-wavelength laser diodes for IEEE 802.3ae-2002 10GBASE-LX4 applications. The company says the products build on its existing isolator-free, single-wavelength laser diode products, which have been deployed by PON equipment manufacturers as an alternative to traditional DFB-based transceivers, whose manufacturing costs can be prohibitive for mass market applications.
CFN expands FiberSource network planning service February 7, 2006 Herndon, VA -- CFN Services announced that it has expanded the base of data, applications, and services supported by its FiberSource planning service. CFN says the service, launched in 2005 to support the company's wireline and wireless carrier customers' internal planning capabilities, combines advice from expert planning professionals with access to the company's comprehensive infrastructure knowledge-base.
Fujitsu launches GPON architecture February 2, 2006 Richardson, TX -- Fujitsu Network Communications has introduced a GPON architecture aimed at North American markets. The company says the new architecture leverages technology from its GEPON systems in the Asian market, complemented by the company's MSAN platform, as well as by IP DSLAMs from its U.K. deployment programs.
Fulcrum Microsystems samples 10-GbE switch chip February 1, 2006 Calabasas, CA -- Fulcrum Microsystems is sampling its FM2224, the first device in its FocalPoint family of low-latency 10-Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) switch semiconductors. The company says that testing of the first silicon has shown that the device delivers on the company's claims of 200 nanoseconds (ns) of total latency, and sustained full-rate throughput up to 10 Gbit/sec on all 24 ports.
PMC-Sierra launches carrier-class Ethernet-over-SONET/SDH mapper January 31, 2006 Santa Clara, CA -- PMC Sierra has introduced its PM4390 ARROW M8xFE mapping device. The company says the device integrates grooming, aggregation, and Ethernet operation, administration, and maintenance (OAM) functions for Gigabit Ethernet and 10/100 Ethernet over SONET/SDH networks.
10-GbE PHY/SerDes ICs feature integrated clocking synthesizers, VCSEL drivers January 30, 2006 Mountain View, CA -- Aeluros has announced the availability of its next-generation 10-Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) PHY/SerDes devices, which feature integrated clock synthesizers and VCSEL driver functionality. The company says the devices, available in pin compatible form, add to its 800mW Puma AEL1001/AEL1002 device family, providing a complete portfolio of 10 Gbit/sec-to-XAUI devices for optical module and line card applications.
Nufern unveils 'harsh-duty,' bend-insensitive communication, sensor fibers January 26, 2006 East Granby, CT -- Nufern, an independent manufacturer of fiber intensive sub-assemblies and specialty optical fibers, has introduced a line of fibers designed to address the harsh environmental conditions experienced in communication and sensor applications.
Enhanced multimode fibers provide headroom for network designs January 25, 2006 Norcross, GA -- OFS announced that it has improved the optical and geometric specifications for its multimode fiber products. The company says the enhancements are designed to provide extra power "headroom," for demanding 1-Gbit/sec and 10-Gbit/sec premises applications, allowing for greater network design flexibility and reliability.
Alloptic intros redundant GEPON ONT January 24, 2006 Livermore, CA -- Alloptic, a provider of Gigabit Ethernet passive optical network (GEPON) access platforms, has introduced its Xgen6000, a redundant Gigabit Ethernet optical network terminal (ONT). The company says the ONT is designed to operate on ITU-standard passive optical networks (PON), and to support redundant fiber feeds, providing "SONET reliability with PON economics."
