German broadcaster places new order with Net Insight August 9, 2006 Stockholm, Sweden -- Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR), Germany's largest broadcaster covering an area with a population of 18 million people, has placed a new order with Net Insight to upgrade six major cities in their existing network of Nimbra products for delivery this year. The upgrade enables new and expanded media services.
Richland-Grant Telephone Cooperative selects ADC equipment August 9, 2006 Minneapolis, MN -- Richland-Grant Telephone Cooperative, Inc. (RGTC), a Blue River, WS-based telecommunications organization, will implement ADC OmniReach fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) equipment in communities located in southwestern Wisconsin. RGTC will work with ADC to install OmniReach Multiport Service Terminals (MSTs) and fiber drop cables for rural delivery of Internet access, wide-area paging, voice mail, IPTV, local-area and wide-area networks.

ECI tapped to expand Romania cable operator's Eastern European network August 8, 2006 Petah Tikva, Israel -- ECI Telecom has signed a new multi-million dollar contract with the largest cable operator in Romania, RCS & RDS, for the upgrade and expansion of its optical network. The network upgrade will allow RCS & RDS to provide triple-play and other broadband services across Eastern Europe and enable access to the European Internet exchange located in Frankfurt. RCS & RDS' upgraded network will serve approximately 1.7 million subscribers.
Verizon to invest $1.5 billion to bring FiOS to NJ August 7, 2006 Newark, NJ -- Verizon announced today that it will move ahead with a $1.5-billion investment over the next three years for the construction and deployment of its fiber network in New Jersey. The announcement came after Gov. Jon Corzine signed into law legislation that streamlines the process for obtaining video franchises in the state.
Tyco tapped for third upgrade of Sea-Me-We 3 undersea network August 7, 2006 Morristown, NJ -- Tyco Telecommunications, a business unit of Tyco Electronics, has been selected by SEA-ME-WE 3 (SMW3) Consortium to implement the third upgrade to segment S6 of the SMW3 network as part of a global system upgrade. The network, which Tyco Telecommunications constructed for the consortium in 1999, is connecting Djibouti, Jeddah, and Suez.
T-Com selects FLAG Telecom for capacity upgrade August 7, 2006 London -- FLAG Telecom, a subsidiary of India's largest private telecom service provider Reliance Communications, today announced the signing of a contract with T-Com, the broadband/fixed-line strategic business unit of Deutsche Telekom AG. Per the agreement, FLAG Telecom would provide 180 Gbits/sec of capacity to T-Com between Europe and the U.S. to meet its growing business requirements.
China Telecom expands core with Juniper Networks August 7, 2006 Sunnyvale, CA -- China Telecom has expanded the core capacity of its ChinaNet Next Carrying Network (CN2), enabling CN2's Juniper Networks' M- and T-series routers to support an increasing number of network edge devices and applications. Since November 2004, China Telecom has deployed Juniper routers as the only routing platforms in the national core of its CN2 project, continuing to build upon previous deployments as part of its CN2 expansion plan.
