Verizon names Alcatel, Motorola, and Tellabs as GPON suppliers
July 27, 2006 New York, NY -- Verizon has tapped Alcatel, Motorola, and Tellabs to supply GPON equipment to upgrade its fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) network. Later this year, Verizon will begin deploying the Alcatel equipment first, to be followed by Motorola and Tellabs. This schedule is subject to finalizing definitive agreements, Verizon says.

Enablence gains cash, exchange listing
July 27, 2006 Ottawa, Canada -- Editorial Director Stephen Hardy reports that Enablence, which is developing transceiver technology for FTTH applications, has positioned itself to transition from product development to delivery. The company has closed $11.3 million (Cdn) in second-round funding and announced a reverse takeover in which the company will be acquired, but end up with a listing on Toronto's TSX Venture Exchange.

BT's 21st Century Network racks up 23 million calls
July 26, 2006 London -- BT says the transformation of its network to deliver next-generation communications services took a major step forward today with more than 23 million customer calls successfully carried over the IP-based trial network.

Russian CDMA-operator Sky Link taps Alcatel to enhance St. Petersburg network
July 26, 2006 Paris -- Delta Telecom, a cellular operator in Russia who operates under the Sky Link brand and provides CDMA-450 services in the city of St.Petersburg, Leningrad, Pskov, and Novgorod regions, as well as in the Republic of Karelia, has tapped Alcatel to modernize its backbone network in the city of St. Petersburg and the region.

Novera Optics to up Korean DWDM line count in third quarter
July 25, 2006 Santa Clara, CA -- Korea Telecom has ordered additional DWDM access transport technologies from Novera Optics to support about 20,000 broadband subscribers. The deployment brings the company's total number of Novera-supported lines to approximately 100,000.

Florida CLEC opts for Calix

The company selected the Calix C7 multiservice access platform (MSAP) to help transform its network in the face of a changing regulatory environment and accelerating consumer expectations.

Fibertech Networks deploys Turin equipment

Dublin broadband provider upgrades metro network with Transmode gear
July 25, 2006 Stockholm, Sweden -- Broighter, the specialist High-Bandwidth Broadband Provider for Dublin, announced today that it has selected Transmode to supply metro WDM technology for its Dublin metro network upgrade. The upgraded Dublin metro network uses the Transmode TS-1100 to provide a CWDM overlay network on the existing infrastructure to provide service flexibility and future-proofing for the network.
