IEEE starts look at higher Ethernet speeds
July 25, 2006 Mountain View, CA -- The Ethernet Alliance, an industry group dedicated to the continued success and expansion of Ethernet technology, today announced that the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) 802.3 working group has formed the Higher Speed Study Group (HSSG) to evaluate the requirements for the next generation of Ethernet technology.
American Fiber Systems completes Salt Lake City expansion
July 24, 2006 Salt Lake City, UT -- American Fiber Systems (AFS) announced the successful completion of its Salt Lake City Fiber Optic Metro Network expansion. SingTel begins first trial of FTTH and residential metro Ethernet in Singapore
July 24, 2006 Singapore -- SingTel today announced the start of trials for fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) and residential metro Ethernet technology in two selected condominiums in Singapore. The technologies will allow SingTel to offer customers ultra-fast broadband speeds of up to 80 Mbits/sec that will enable advanced triple-play voice, video, and data services.
City of Loma Linda taps Alpha for FTTH, solar power
July 20, 2006 Bellingham, WA -- Alpha Technologies Inc. announces the commissioning of the first phase of a 267-kW solar power plant for the City of Loma Linda, CA. When fully operational the power plant, based on photovoltaic technology, will provide over 430 MWh of electricity annually - enough to power 70 homes a year. The company also will provide backup powering products for the city's FTTH initiative.
Public transit security system opts for free-space optics
July 20, 2006 Lake Success, NY -- A county in southern Florida has increased the security of its public transit trains in a major city thanks in part to a sophisticated video system. The system includes four Canon Canobeam DT-120 optical wireless data transceivers to deliver high-bandwidth video over data connections, the company has announced.

Luminent - HG Genuine acquisition terminated
July 19, 2006 Chatsworth, CA, and Wuhan, China -- Luminent, a wholly-owned subsidiary of MRV Communications, today announced that it has mutually agreed with Huagong Tech Company Ltd (HG Tech) to terminate the agreement under which Luminent was to acquire HG Genuine Opto, a subsidiary of HG Tech. The termination is based on current market valuations of comparable companies and further due diligence.
