Teknovus and Samsung announce Korea Telecom win
July 17, 2006 Petaluma, CA -- Korea Telecom (KT), Korea's largest service provider, has selected the Samsung Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) portfolio, based on Teknovus' GEPON chipsets, for major deployment throughout Korea. KT is building a nationwide broadband network that will deliver premium-grade triple-play services.

OCP acquires GEPON component supplier GigaComm
July 17, 2006 Woodland Hills, CA -- Optical Communication Products (OCP), manufacturer of optical subsystems and modules, has agreed to acquire privately held GigaComm Corp., a Taiwan-based supplier of passive optical network (PON) fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) components, in an all cash transaction. OCP will pay approximately $20 million for GigaComm.

Alcatel and Kodiak Kenai Cable Co. install submarine network in Alaska
July 17, 2006 Paris -- Alcatel today announced that its Maersk Defender cable ship will start laying a regional submarine cable network for Kodiak Kenai Cable Company--a subsidiary of the Alaskan Old Harbor Native Corporation--in Seward, Alaska.

Report: Fiber-connected consumers snap up consumer electronics
July 13, 2006 Tulsa, OK -- The demand for high-definition (HD) televisions, wireless equipment, computers, and other consumer devices is growing as a result of the super-fast fiber-optic broadband service now becoming available in the United States, according to survey information released today by RVA Market Research.

10-Gbit/sec modules to exceed $4.2 billion by 2011, says CIR
July 13, 2006 Charlottesville, VA -- According to a newly released set of forecasts from CIR, the market for 10-Gigabit transponder and transceiver modules used in data and telecommunications networks will top $4.2 billion in the year 2011. The firm also notes that the long awaited 40-Gigabit market will start to gain traction in 2008 and generate revenues of close to $350 million in 2011.

Meriton touts new customers
July 12, 2006 Ottawa, Canada -- Optical systems vendor Meriton Networks announced a pair of new customers for its 6400 Optical Transport Platform (OTP). One is with Telepak Networks, Inc., a provider of voice, video, and data telecommunications and network services, in Mississippi; the other is with Buckeye TeleSystem, a facilities-based provider of telecommunications services with 1,700 route miles of fiber in Ohio.

PMC-Sierra's EPON chips power Korea Telecom FTTH Deployment
July 12, 2006 Santa Clara, CA -- PMC-Sierra Inc. and Dasan Networks, Inc., a Korean supplier of broadband access equipment, have announced that PMC-Sierra's EPON fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) semiconductors are designed into Dasan's FTTH equipment. Korea Telecom (KT) has selected the equipment for volume deployment in Korea's FTTH network rollout that will deliver triple-play services.

Alcatel enhances Indian telecom network
July 12, 2006 Paris, France -- Alcatel has successfully completed a 5,000-km extension of the existing optical multi-service telecommunications transport network of RAILTEL Corp. of India, a subsidiary of Indian Railways.

Tularosa Basin Telephone replacing copper with FTTP and FTTN
July 12, 2006 Santa Barbara, CA -- Tularosa Basin Telephone Co. Inc. (TBTC) has selected the BLC 6000 System from Occam Networks Inc. to upgrade its outside plant facilities with fiber to the premises (FTTP) and fiber to the node (FTTN). The new active Ethernet fiber network will enable TBTC to provide all of its subscribers with a full range of triple-play services with up to 1 Gbit/sec of bandwidth.

Net Insight to support Norwegian digital TV service delivery
July 11, 2006 Stockholm, Sweden -- Net Insight has received a first order from Norkring for delivery of equipment to the Norwegian digital terrestrial TV network. The order has a value of approximately 20 MSEK, and deliveries will start during the fourth quarter.
