Bookham announces RoHS compliance
June 28, 2006 Caswell, UK -- Bookham has announced that it is fully compliant with the European Parliament's Restriction of the use of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive, a claim confirmed by an external audit by BSi (British Standards Institute) Management Systems during an independent third-party assessment. BSi confirmed that Bookham had systems and processes in place delivering the necessary compliance ahead of the legal deadline of July 1, 2006.
City of Klamath Falls, OR, approves fiber build

Tyco Telecom receives contract for Sakhalin Islands undersea network
June 26, 2006 Morristown, NJ -- Tyco Telecommunications, a business unit of Tyco Electronics has been selected by TransTelecom Co. (TTC), a Russian backbone operator, as the sole provider of the first undersea communications system connecting the Sakhalin Islands to TTC's digital mainland backbone. The network, to be laid across the Tatarsky Strait, will eliminate the region's dependence on the expensive and less-reliable satellite channels it had previously utilized for communications.
Finisar wins patent suit against DIRECTV
June 26, 2006 Sunnyvale, CA -- Finisar Corp. reports it has won $78.9 million in back damages in a verdict against DIRECTV in a patent infringement case. After a two-week trial in federal district court, a Beaumont, TX, jury rendered a decision last Friday that found DIRECTV and its affiliated companies to be "directly, literally, and willfully" infringing upon Finisar's information transmission patent.

June 23, 2006 Milpitas, CA -- The Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal and other media outlets report that OpVista has closed what it expects will be its last round of funding. The round, led by Doll Capital Management, was reported to be worth $28 million.
Adelphia reorganization and sale moves forward

Telco Systems to take on Metrobility Optical Systems
June 22, 2006 Foxboro, MA -- Telco Systems, a provider of carrier-class transport and access equipment for public and private IP and TDM networks, has agreed to acquire Metrobility Optical Systems. The acquisition will integrate Metrobility's intelligent Ethernet service demarcation devices with Telco Systems' metro Ethernet access offerings to provide service providers a wider range of carrier Ethernet demarcation options, as well as augment Telco Systems' cable provider customer base.
Alloptic gets cash
June 22, 2006 Livermore, CA -- Arcapita Ventures, the venture capital arm of Arcapita Bank BSC, has committed to an $8 million equity investment in GEPON vendor Alloptic Inc.
