IEEE ratifies 10GBASE-T standard
June 13, 2006 New York -- On June 8, 2006, the IEEE Standards Association (IEEE-SA) Standards Board approved the IEEE P802.3an 10GBASE-T standard without opposition.
MRV's WDM systems selected for U.S. DOD certification
June 13, 2006 Chatsworth, CA -- Three of MRV Communications' products have been accepted for evaluation by the Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC). JITC is chartered with certifying interoperability for all networking products to be used by agencies that make up the U.S. Department of Defense (DOD).
TIA to Senate: Nationwide video franchise will spur broadband investment
June 13, 2006 Arlington, VA -- In testimony yesterday before the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, Electronic Industries Alliance (EIA) president and CEO Dave McCurdy, speaking on behalf of Alliance Sector Partner the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), urged the Senate to craft legislation that ensures that broadband networks and services operate in a minimal regulatory environment.
Belgacom ICS and Siemens partner on ROADM-based optical network
June 13, 2006 Munich -- Siemens Communications will work with Belgacom ICS to develop what it claims is the first telecommunications network based on reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexer (ROADM) technology in continental Europe. The new fiber-based network, dubbed PEN4FUTURE, will link 16 European telecommunications nodes and enable Belgacom ICS to offer its customers transmission capacity up to n x 40-Gbit/sec wavelengths.
Juniper Networks demos 40G GMPLS with NTT Communications
June 12, 2006 Sunnyvale, CA -- Juniper Networks, Inc., together with NTT Communications, announced that the Juniper Networks T640 core router successfully demonstrated Generalized Multiprotocol Label Switching (GMPLS) signaling to dynamically establish a OC-768/STM-256 Layer 1 network path between NTT Communications' Makuhari and Othemachi points of presence (PoPs). The demonstration was held at ShowNet during Interop Tokyo 2006, June 7 to 9 at the Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan.
XO Communications helps Mid-Atlantic Broadband Cooperative to expand
June 12, 2006 Reston, VA -- XO Communications today announced a multi-year agreement worth up to $3 million to provide dark fiber to the Mid-Atlantic Broadband Cooperative (MBC), an organization that is helping to bring advanced open-access broadband services to rural communities in Southside Virginia. The XO fiber will be used to provide broader open-access connectivity for the regional broadband initiative at major points where Internet traffic is exchanged.
ADVA's FSP 2000 selected for new data center

FibreSpan expands dark fiber network in Soho
June 12, 2006 -- FibreSpan, a UK provider of dark fiber networking, has increased the size and scope of its Soho network in London's busy West End. House passes nationwide video franchise system
June 9, 2006 Arlington, VA -- The U.S. House of Representatives last night passed H.R. 5252, the "Communications Opportunity, Promotion, and Enhancement (COPE) Act of 2006," by a vote of 321- 101, prompting commendations from the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), United States Telecom Association (USTelecom), and the Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) Council, among others.
Telefónica de Espana selects Alcatel for broadband network
