Level 3 to acquire Looking Glass Networks
June 5, 2006 Broomfield, CO -- Level 3 Communications, Inc. has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Looking Glass Networks, Inc., a privately held facilities-based provider of metropolitan transport services. Level 3's payments in this transaction will total $165 million.

Global Crossing selects Infinera gear
June 5, 2006 Sunnyvale, CA -- Global Crossing has selected the Infinera DTN optical system to enhance the speed and flexibility of provisioning its digital optical network. Initial deployment by Global Crossing of the Infinera DTN has begun in the southeastern United States.

China Netcom to sell Asia Netcom
June 5, 2006 Beijing -- China Netcom Group Corp. (Hong Kong) Ltd. has reached a definitive agreement with Ashmore Emerging Markets Liquid Investment Portfolio and Spinnaker Global Opportunity Fund Ltd. under which China Netcom will sell 100% of the equity interest in Asia Netcom Corp. Ltd. an indirect wholly owned subsidiary of China Netcom to the investor group for $168.84 million.

Fujitsu selects PMC-Sierra's metro transport semiconductors
June 5, 2006 Santa Clara, CA -- Fujitsu has selected PMC-Sierra's metro transport semiconductor products for its flagship metro optical products: The FLASHWAVE 7500 Reconfigurable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer (ROADM) and the FLASHWAVE 4500 Multi-Service Provisioning Platform (MSPP).

Hitachi Telcom confirms GPON customer traction
June 5, 2006 Atlanta, GA -- Dumont Telephone Company has selected Hitachi Telecom's AMN1220 Gigabit Passive Optical Networking (GPON) platform for the delivery of triple-play services in the city of Dumont, IA, and surrounding areas. Hitachi Telecom also confirms that ComSpan Bandon Networks of Bandon, OR, has deployed its AMN1220 GPON family as well.

Cisco touts Asian successes
June 2, 2006 Taipei, Taiwan and San Jose, CA -- On the eve of next week's Globalcomm event in Chicago, Cisco Systems announced a pair of contract awards in Asia. The first is with the international business arm of Taiwan's largest telecommunications company, Chunghwa Telecom (CHT). The second will find Cisco delivering equipment to Mongolia.

June 1, 2006 Paris -- SaskTel, one of Canada's most progressive full service communications companies, has selected Alcatel's triple-play portfolio to enhance its Internet and entertainment services across the province of Saskatchewan. The value of the project is CDN$ 35 million, and deployment will begin in the second quarter of 2006.

RED-C and Capella demo integrated EDFA/ROADM subsystem at Globalcomm
June 1, 2006 Chicago -- RED-C Optical Networks, provider of Locally Controlled Subsystems based on optical amplification technology, and Capella, provider of Wavelength Selective Switch (WSS) modules for use in Reconfigurable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer (ROADM) applications, have successfully developed and will be demonstrating their integrated EDFA / ROADM subsystem next week at GlobalComm 2006 in Chicago.
