Idaho school district taps Time Warner Telecom for Ethernet services
May 24, 2006 Boise, ID -- Time Warner Telecom has won a competitive bid to provide Meridian School District with a full suite of communications solutions, including metro Ethernet, Ethernet Internet Services (EIS), and voice services. Time Warner Telecom will deliver communications services over the next five years to Idaho's largest school district. Installation will be complete prior to the start of the 2006/2007 school year.

Optical subsystem startup Nistica secures funding
May 24, 2006 Bridgewater, NJ -- Nistica, a new optical subsystems developer, today announced that it has received Series A funding from PA Early Stage, Technology Venture Partners, and other investors. According to the company, it has developed a new class of intelligent optical modules to enable edge networks to scale at healthy margins, and rapidly deliver bandwidth for the new wave of consumer multimedia and enterprise wavelength services.

Luminent to acquire Chinese transceiver manufacturer
May 24, 2006 Chatsworth, CA, and Wuhan, China -- Luminent, a wholly-owned subsidiary of MRV Communications has agreed to acquire HG Genuine Opto, a subsidiary of Huagong Tech. HG Genuine Opto is the second largest fiber-optic transceiver manufacturer based wholly in China.

Lucent deploys Juniper routers for UKERNA's JANET network
May 23, 2006 London -- Lucent Technologies and Juniper Networks today announced they have been selected by the U.K. Education and Research Networking Association (UKERNA) to provide the routing equipment for a 10-Gbit/sec network, known as JANET, to support a range of broadband services for universities and education establishments in the U.K.

DuPont Photonics announces strategic investment in ANDevices

ARRIS coordinates European broadband access project
May 23, 2006 Suwanee, GA -- ARRIS today announced the establishment of a European Commission-supported Framework for Partnership 6 (FP6) project--CODMUCA (COre Subsytem for Delivery of Multiband Data in CATV Networks)--which will research the technology required to accelerate the deployment of very high- speed broadband access over European Hybrid Fibre Coax (HFC) networks.

Arkansas CLEC taps GENBAND and Pannaway for triple-play service delivery
May 23, 2006 Portsmouth, NH, and Plano, TX -- Pannaway Technologies, developer of converged IP broadband systems, and GENBAND, telecommunications infrastructure products provider, today announced that Arkansas-based Ritter Communications is the 12th telecommunications company to deploy a joint solution using GENBAND's G6 Universal Media Gateway and Pannaway's Service Convergence Network (SCN).

Ethernet switch market to net $17.7 billion in 2009, reveals report
May 23, 2006 Scottsdale, AZ -- With average selling prices (ASPs) decreasing by 19% in 2005, 10-Gigabit Ethernet (10-GbE) switches are on a strong growth track and will continue to be in hot demand through 2010, contends a new report from In-Stat. Though the 10-GbE switch segment will be a highlight, the entire Ethernet switch market will continue to show strong results over the next several years.

BroadLight touts design wins, intros new MDU/MTU chip
May 22, 2006 Mountain View, CA -- BroadLight Inc. announced that it has secured 25 design wins for its End-to-End (E2E) GPON product line and introduced the BL2340 GPON ONT chip. The latter announcement enables Broadlight to offer a device tailored for multiple dwelling unit (MDU) and multi-tenant unit (MTU) applications; the former bespeaks of how well the company has taken advantage of beating its competition to market.

Silk telecom opts for Nortel optical gear
May 22, 2006 Sydney, Australia -- Silk telecom, a recently formed telecommunications provider, is building a new optical network in Australia using high-capacity networking technology from Nortel. The network supports a new range of high-speed managed services for Silk telecom's enterprise customers in regional Victoria and South Australia.
