Siemens Bridges to China
May 18, 2006 Shanghai, China -- Siemens has announced the signing of an agreement to acquire Photonic Bridges, headquartered in Shanghai, China. Subject to approval from the appropriate authorities and governing boards, Siemens will integrate the previous OEM partner's entire optical product portfolio into its optical transmission systems.

FTTH to reach Pakistan
May 18, 2006 Paris, France -- Alcatel announced that it has been selected by Naya Tel (Pvt.) Ltd. of Pakistan to supply equipment for the region's first fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network to deliver a high-bandwidth triple-play (voice, video and data) services to over 30,000 subscribers in the capital city of Islamabad.

Eurofiber taps JDSU for fiber service and performance monitoring
May 18, 2006 Milpitas, CA -- JDSU announced that Eurofiber, a specialized provider of managed dark fiber in the Benelux, has purchased JDSU's Optical Network Management System (ONMS) to monitor the quality of service of its dark-fiber network infrastructure. The agreement includes options for future service-level agreement (SLA) and network support.

Vitesse cleans house, looks for cash
May 18, 2006 Camarillo, CA -- Vitesse Semiconductor Corp. is under new management, now that it has deleted "acting" from Christopher R. Gardner's "acting chief executive officer" title. May 17, 2006 Munich -- Infineon Technologies yesterday introduced a plastic optical fiber (POF) to Ethernet transceiver solution that enables mass deployment of video home networking driving IPTV and HDTV services. Unlike other wired and wireless options, POF is highly flexible, secure, and stable with virtually no bandwidth limitations, say Infineon representatives.

Alcatel touts success in Sweden, Taiwan
May 16, 2006 Hong Kong -- Alcatel, through its Swedish systems integration partner Fiberdata, has inked deals to provide its Fiber-to-the-User (FTTU) equipment for four service provider networks in Sweden. The company also announced that it has successfully completed a network extension project for Taiwan's Sparq, an island-wide fixed telecom service provider.

Nortel optical gear selected for Canadian research network
