France's Canal+ Group chooses Optibase for IP video
May 9, 2006 Herzliya, Israel -- Optibase, a provider of digital head-end platforms including streaming gateway devices and MPEG encoders/decoders, announced that the CANAL+ Group, a pay TV operator in France, has chosen the Optibase IPTV platforms to provide video over IP capabilities throughout the operator's service area.

According to the report, equipment sales, service revenue, subscribers, and service provider capex for IPTV all increased dramatically between 2004 and 2005, and are expected to "explode" by 2009.

France's neuf cegetel taps Ciena for broadband infrastructure
May 9, 2006 Linthicum, MD -- neuf cegetel has selected Ciena's CN 4200 FlexSelect advanced services platform for deployment across its metro and regional broadband network in France. The French provider says the platform will maximize the performance and flexibility of its existing network to support the delivery of new broadband applications to corporate and residential customers.

FTTH Council Europe extends board, boosts membership
May 8, 2006 Stockholm -- At the FTTH Council Europe's annual General Assembly in Stockholm, members voted unanimously to continue with the majority of the present board, and to extend the council's number by two individuals. Five new member organizations were also accepted into the council, including Dantex Plastrør, Dätwyler, Ignis Photonyx A/S, Mitsubishi Electric and Volker Wessels Telecom. The new members boost the council's total membership to 59.

Asia Pacific broadband access revenue to top $55M by 2011, says In-Stat
May 8, 2006 Scottsdale, AZ -- Revenues for the Asia Pacific broadband access service market totaled $20.7 billion in 2005 and will reach $55.1 billion by 2011, according to a report from In-Stat. According to the firm, tier-1 markets Japan and South Korea contributed more than 60% of the region's total revenue in 2005, followed by tier-2 markets Hong Kong, Taiwan, Australia, and Singapore, which contributed approximately 15%.

Lucent, Movaz further metro DWDM pact

Global Crossing extends core IP network to Costa Rica
May 5, 2005 San Jose, Costa Rica -- At a signing ceremony today hosted by Costa Rica's Instituto Costarricense de Electricidad (ICE), the state-run entity responsible for that nation's telecommunications, and the national Internet service provider Radiografica Costarricense S.A. (RACSA), Global Crossing announced plans to extend its core network to Costa Rica.

Fiber-optic cable market returns to double digit growth rates, finds report
May 4, 2006 Nashua, NH -- The amount of fiber-optic cable installed worldwide jumped 15% in 2005 compared with 2004 installations, according to a recent report from KMI Research. According to the report, North America led this surge with a 36% increase in installations, followed by Western Europe with a 22% increase. The annualized growth rate through 2010 will be 10%; growth figures are based on kilometers of cabled fiber installed each year.

JDSU's Q3 results show optical revenue up 16% sequentially
May 4, 2006 Milpitas, CA -- JDSU has reported its fiscal 2006 third quarter results, for the quarter ended March 31, 2006. The company reports that its optical communications net revenue grew 16% from the previous quarter, and 25% from the same quarter a year ago. Net revenue of $127.5 million represented 40% of total non-GAAP net revenue.
