Minnesota's Mabel Telephone chooses TelStrat for triple play
April 25, 2006 Plano, TX -- Mabel Telephone Cooperative of Mabel, Minnesota is upgrading its access network with TelStrat's Inteleflex Broadband Loop Carrier platform. The platform will allow the carrier to offer high-speed data services via copper and FTTH to its 1,800 subscribers.

PacketFront FTTH lands in rural British Colombia
April 24, 2006 London -- The Columbia Mountain Open Network (CMON), a non-profit organization, expanded its community broadband system in British Columbia, Canada using PacketFront's FTTH and broadband aggregation technology. The company's BECS FTTH control and provisioning system will allow CMON to offer broadband services to the rural community of Trail, as well as to the five band locations of the Ktunaxa First Nation.

Sweden's Com Hem selects Alcatel for IP triple play
April 24, 2006 Paris -- Swedish cable TV operator Com Hem selected Alcatel's IP service routing platform for its IP/MPLS-based data backbone network, to enable advanced triple play services across Sweden. Once deployed, Alcatel says the platform will allow Com Hem to run hundreds of broadcast channels, video on demand, voice over IP, and data services over its IP/MPLS network.

L.A. County picks AT&T optical services
April 24, 2006 Los Angeles, CA -- AT&T announced that it will be providing optical network services to Los Angeles County. AT&T will provide the county with a multi-service optical network ring (MON ring), including multiple Gigabit Ethernet and Fiber Channel circuits.

Denmark's GlobalConnect taps Ciena for 10-GbE network
April 24, 2006 Linthicum, MD -- GlobalConnect, a Denmark-based telecom infrastructure provider, has named Ciena as its preferred supplier of 10-Gigabit Ethernet (10-GbE) DWDM and SDH transport and switching equipment. The provider has deployed Ciena's CN 4200 FlexSelect advanced services platform for 10G DWDM metro and regional transport, as well as the company's CN 3600 intelligent optical multi-service switch for SDH and future Layer 2 Ethernet applications.

Alpheus expands fiber network to Corpus Christi
April 24, 2006 Houston, TX -- Alpheus Communications announced that it is expanding its Texas fiber footprint by activating a metro network in Corpus Christi. The wholesale broadband provider says it has acquired three fiber rings in Corpus Christi to combine with its existing long haul network to make Corpus its sixth Texas market.

Open Access taps ADC for TDM, Ethernet services
April 20, 2006 Minneapolis, MN -- Metropolitan area network (MAN) provider Open Access is deploying ADC's LoopStar 1600 and 810 SONET transmission and access systems to provide TDM services to mobile carrier customers in the Long Island and New York City areas.

Fujitsu, Mitsui launch optical device venture for quantum dot lasers
April 20, 2006 Tokyo, Japan -- Fujitsu and Mitsui have jointly established an optical device venture, named QD Laser, Inc. (QDL), leveraging venture capital funding from both companies in support of Fujitsu's quantum dot laser technology.

KPN taps Lucent, World Wide Packets for Ethernet roll-out
April 20, 2006 Hilversum, The Netherlands -- Lucent Technologies has been selected by KPN to supply network equipment, software, and services to support the roll-out of Ethernet-based services to KPN's enterprise customers in The Netherlands. The equipment for the deployment is being supplied by World Wide Packets under a newly established global reseller agreement with Lucent for business and residential FTTP customer premises equipment (CPE) platforms.

OSA asks Congress for more R&D investment
April 20, 2006 Washington, DC -- Members of the Optical Society of America (OSA) traveled to Washington, D.C. on March 28 and 29 to meet with Congressional representatives. The members' goal was to emphasize the need for increased and balanced federal investment in research and development for optics and photonics technologies. The group told Congress that federally funded research for such technologies is critical to securing the nation's economic future.
