KT deploys Meriton's optical gear
April 19, 2006 Ottawa, Canada and Seoul, Korea -- KT Corp., the former Korea Telecom, and Meriton Networks announced the deployment of KT's intelligent WDM (I-WDM) network, which employs Meriton's Agile Optical Networking (AON) architecture and is designed to allow KT to meet "explosive growth" in its optical network, while providing network agility to cost-effectively support future broadband service developments.

Metrobility completes beta testing with S.A. service provider
April 19, 2005 Merrimack, NH -- Metrobility Optical Systems announced that its NetBeacon ESP element management system has completed an extensive beta test with a major South American service provider and is now shipping. An integral part of its carrier Ethernet product line, the company says the system provides extensible, secure element management for its Radiance line of optical networking products.

TelCove continues Florida expansion
April 19, 2006 Pittsburgh, PA -- TelCove, a provider of telecommunications services to enterprise customers, carriers, and government organizations, announced the further expansion of its fiber-optic network in Florida. The provider says the upgraded local and intercity network now covers 2,700 route miles serving 14 markets in the state.

PSI-TEC demos nano-engineered, molecular electro-optic structure
April 18, 2006 Wilmington, DE -- PSI-TEC Corp. announced that it has successfully tested an organic material, engineered via nanotechnology, whose molecular electro-optic coefficient is approximately twice that of the communications industry's highest-performance silicon materials, according to the company's scientists.

Alloptic GEPON picked for New Zealand FTTH resort development
April 18, 2006 Livermore, CA -- Alloptic's Gigabit Ethernet passive optical networking (GEPON) technology has been selected for a FTTH deployment at the Huka Falls Resort in Taupo, New Zealand. The fiber-optic communications network will provide voice, data, and video services to the resort's residents.

Huawei-3Com picks Ample's Ethernet MAC silicon
April 18, 2006 Fremont, CA -- Huawei-3Com has selected Ample Communications' Harrier 10/100/1000 Multiport Ethernet MAC silicon to provide Ethernet aggregation for its mid-range and high-end routers and switches. According to a press release, shipment of Huawei-3Com switch line cards using Ample's Harrier-24 devices began in the fourth quarter of 2005.

MEMS revenue weak in 2005 despite strong shipment growth, says In-Stat
April 18, 2006 Scottsdale, AZ -- Worldwide revenue growth for sales of micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) devices slowed dramatically in 2005, despite "very strong" unit shipments, according to a report from In-Stat, a high-tech market research firm. Nearly 1.8 billion MEMS devices were shipped in 2005, generating revenues of just under $7 billion, says the firm.

Level 3 to acquire ICG Communications
April 17, 2006 Broomfield, CO -- Level 3 Communications signed a definitive agreement to acquire all of the stock of ICG Communications, a privately held Colorado-based telecommunications company. Under terms of the agreement, Level 3 will pay total consideration of $163 million, consisting of $127 million in unregistered shares of Level 3 common stock and $36 million in cash.

3 Rivers picks Pannaway's access platform
April 17, 2006 Portsmouth, NH -- 3 Rivers Communications selected Pannaway Technologies' broadband access system for the delivery of next-generation services to rural subscribers. 3 Rivers is a 53 year-old telephone cooperative located in Fairfield, Montana, supporting 20,000 access lines across 29 exchanges.

AT&T, Ohio's MEC sign metro Ethernet contract
April 17, 2006 Columbus, OH -- AT&T has signed a contract with the Metropolitan Educational Council (MEC), a consortium of school districts, libraries and related agencies in the greater central Ohio area. Under the terms of the six-year contract, AT&T will provide its Customized Switched Metro Ethernet (CSME) services to connect 160 schools and related agencies to a single network for increased security and reliability.
