Verizon names Alcatel, Motorola, and Tellabs as GPON suppliers July 27, 2006 New York, NY -- Verizon has tapped Alcatel, Motorola, and Tellabs to supply GPON equipment to upgrade its fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) network. Later this year, Verizon will begin deploying the Alcatel equipment first, to be followed by Motorola and Tellabs. This schedule is subject to finalizing definitive agreements, Verizon says.
Enablence gains cash, exchange listing July 27, 2006 Ottawa, Canada -- Editorial Director Stephen Hardy reports that Enablence, which is developing transceiver technology for FTTH applications, has positioned itself to transition from product development to delivery. The company has closed $11.3 million (Cdn) in second-round funding and announced a reverse takeover in which the company will be acquired, but end up with a listing on Toronto's TSX Venture Exchange.
Novera Optics to up Korean DWDM line count in third quarter July 25, 2006 Santa Clara, CA -- Korea Telecom has ordered additional DWDM access transport technologies from Novera Optics to support about 20,000 broadband subscribers. The deployment brings the company's total number of Novera-supported lines to approximately 100,000.
SingTel begins first trial of FTTH and residential metro Ethernet in Singapore July 24, 2006 Singapore -- SingTel today announced the start of trials for fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) and residential metro Ethernet technology in two selected condominiums in Singapore. The technologies will allow SingTel to offer customers ultra-fast broadband speeds of up to 80 Mbits/sec that will enable advanced triple-play voice, video, and data services.

OCP acquires GEPON component supplier GigaComm July 17, 2006 Woodland Hills, CA -- Optical Communication Products (OCP), manufacturer of optical subsystems and modules, has agreed to acquire privately held GigaComm Corp., a Taiwan-based supplier of passive optical network (PON) fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) components, in an all cash transaction. OCP will pay approximately $20 million for GigaComm.
PMC-Sierra's EPON chips power Korea Telecom FTTH Deployment July 12, 2006 Santa Clara, CA -- PMC-Sierra Inc. and Dasan Networks, Inc., a Korean supplier of broadband access equipment, have announced that PMC-Sierra's EPON fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) semiconductors are designed into Dasan's FTTH equipment. Korea Telecom (KT) has selected the equipment for volume deployment in Korea's FTTH network rollout that will deliver triple-play services.
