TIA to Senate: Nationwide video franchise will spur broadband investment
June 13, 2006 Arlington, VA -- In testimony yesterday before the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, Electronic Industries Alliance (EIA) president and CEO Dave McCurdy, speaking on behalf of Alliance Sector Partner the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), urged the Senate to craft legislation that ensures that broadband networks and services operate in a minimal regulatory environment.

House passes nationwide video franchise system
June 9, 2006 Arlington, VA -- The U.S. House of Representatives last night passed H.R. 5252, the "Communications Opportunity, Promotion, and Enhancement (COPE) Act of 2006," by a vote of 321- 101, prompting commendations from the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), United States Telecom Association (USTelecom), and the Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) Council, among others.

Chelan County passes 15,000 homes and businesses with fiber
June 7, 2006 Chelan County, WA -- Chelan County Public Utility District's fiber-optic network is now the largest open-access, fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) network in Washington state, with services available to more than 15,000 homes, businesses, schools, hospitals, and government offices.

Hitachi Telcom announces GPON customer traction
June 5, 2006 Atlanta, GA -- Dumont Telephone Company has selected Hitachi Telecom's AMN1220 Gigabit Passive Optical Networking (GPON) platform for the delivery of triple-play services in the city of Dumont, IA, and surrounding areas. Hitachi Telecom also confirms that ComSpan Bandon Networks of Bandon, OR, has deployed its AMN1220 GPON family as well.

SaskTel selects Alcatel equipment for triple-play delivery
June 1, 2006 Paris -- SaskTel, one of Canada's most progressive full service communications companies, has selected Alcatel's triple-play portfolio to enhance its Internet and entertainment services across the province of Saskatchewan. The value of the project is CDN$ 35 million, and deployment will begin in the second quarter of 2006.

Connexion Technologies taps Allied Telesyn for active Ethernet-based FTTP
June 1, 2006 San Jose, CA -- Connexion Technologies, formerly Capitol Infrastructure, has selected Allied Telesyn's IP triple-play equipment to provide Fiber-to-the-Premise (FTTP) communications to its subscribers. The first deployment will take place in a 400-unit condominium high-rise complex scheduled for completion this summer. Connexion Technologies estimates as many as 200,000 new subscribers may be added to its subscriber base as a result of the new Ethernet/IP technology.

Alloptic gets behind 10-Gigabit EPON Study Group
May 31, 2006 Livermore, CA -- EPON systems vendor Alloptic, Inc. has announced its support for the recently formed IEEE 10G EPON study group. A 10G EPON study group was formed within the IEEE 802.3 working group at the March 2006 Denver plenary meeting.

FTTH to reach Pakistan
May 18, 2006 Paris, France -- Alcatel announced that it has been selected by Naya Tel (Pvt.) Ltd. of Pakistan to supply equipment for the region's first fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network to deliver a high-bandwidth triple-play (voice, video and data) services to over 30,000 subscribers in the capital city of Islamabad.

BroadLight touts design wins, intros new MDU/MTU chip
May 22, 2006 Mountain View, CA -- BroadLight Inc. announced that it has secured 25 design wins for its End-to-End (E2E) GPON product line and introduced the BL2340 GPON ONT chip. The latter announcement enables Broadlight to offer a device tailored for multiple dwelling unit (MDU) and multi-tenant unit (MTU) applications; the former bespeaks of how well the company has taken advantage of beating its competition to market.
