Infonetics: Metro Ethernet equipment sales up 27% in 2007
MAY 7, 2007 -- "By 2011-2012, the majority of access and aggregation equipment being deployed by carriers around the world will be IP, Ethernet, and WDM, not SONET/SDH," notes Michael Howard, principal analyst for optical and metro Ethernet and co-founder of Infonetics Research.

MAY 5, 2008 -- The 2,700-km optical network, which covers the entire country, including the capital city of Budapest, is based on Huawei's OTN/ASON-based WDM platform.

University of Washington deploys XKL's DXM
MAY 5, 2008 -- The University of Washington in Seattle has deployed the XKL DXM optical transport system to support a fiber network from its main data center to the campus. The network is designed to transport multiple services, including Gigabit Ethernet, 10 Gigabit Ethernet, SONET, and Fibre Channel.

XO Communications expands nationwide availability of Ethernet services
MAY 1, 2008 -- XO Communications claims it is now capable of delivering Ethernet services to more than half a million business locations in 75 major metropolitan markets across the U.S. utilizing its nationwide fiber networks, expanded deployment of Ethernet over copper technology, and fixed broadband wireless capabilities.

Verizon to invest $86 million to expand FiOS TV in Rhode Island
MAY 1, 2008 -- The $86-million investment will extend Verizon's FiOS TV service to an additional 10 communities and expand its Providence-based Fiber Solutions Center, where at least 50 more union-represented technicians and customer service representatives will be hired, say Verizon representatives.

BTI Systems builds Georgian country backbone
APRIL 30, 2008 -- Railway Telecom Ltd., based in Tblisi, Georgia, has installed BTI Systems' Netstender 2060 to expand its delivery capacity of wholesale services and international connectivity.

Sterlite to up fiber cable production
APRIL 30, 2008 -- Sterlite Technologies Ltd. plans to expand its fiber-optic cables facilities to an annual manufacturing capacity of 6 million km from its current capacity of 2 million km. This expansion, in conjunction with an optical fiber expansion from 6 to 12 million km, would position Sterlite among the top five global integrated fiber and cable producers, the company asserts.
