New OIF interface agreements satisfy industry's need for speed
APRIL 16, 2008 -- The OIF this week published its new Serial Look-Aside Interface Implementation Agreement, which gives users the ability to interface network processor elements (NPEs) to look-aside devices such as co-processors and memories at bandwidth speeds up to 40 Gbits/sec and beyond. The OIF also released a new version of the Common Electrical Interface Protocol (CEI-P) Implementation Agreement, which includes new clauses for mapping TFI-5 and TDM-P applications over a CEI-P layer.

BH Telecom taps Nokia Siemens Networks to build optical network in Bosnia and Herzegovina
APRIL 14, 2008 -- BH Telecom claims to be the first operator in the country to implement DWDM technology. The new network, based on Nokia Siemens Networks' SURPASS hiT 7300 platform, will also feature ROADM technology.

Ethernet Alliance members demo SFP+ interoperability
APRIL 14, 2008 -- The Ethernet Alliance today announced that members AMCC, Avago Technologies, Broadcom, ClariPhy, Cortina Systems, ExceLight Communications, Finisar, Gennum, Inphi, Intel, JDSU, MergeOptics, NetLogic Microsystems, Opnext, and Vitesse successfully conducted multi-vendor interoperability testing of Small Form Factor Pluggable (SFP+) short-reach (10GBASE-SR) and long-reach (10GBASE-LR) optical interfaces.

Net Insight optimizes MediaXstream's video transport network
APRIL 14, 2008 -- MediaXstream built out the first phase of its network in 17 of North America's largest cities, including New York, Washington DC, Houston, Dallas, Chicago, Los Angeles, and the San Francisco Bay Area. The new network offers high-capacity transmissions using Net Insight's Nimbra platform to deliver uncompressed and compressed HD or SD video, data and voice services.

Heavy Reading: Carrier Ethernet means packet optical transport sales
APRIL 11, 2008 -- Optical telecom equipment suppliers expect the continuing surge in the deployment of carrier-class Ethernet services to create strong demand for packet optical transport systems, which are set to become commercially available this year, according to the latest forecast from Heavy Reading.

General Cable touts long-haul submarine fiber contract
