Zayo Group to acquire network assets from Citynet
SEPTEMBER 30, 2008 -- The Citynet assets bring an additional 300 route miles of fiber to Zayo's core fiber network. Highlights of the assets include 58 route miles of metro fiber in Phoenix, Arizona; 131 route miles of metro fiber in Cincinnati, Ohio; and 83 route miles of metro fiber in Dallas, Texas. In addition, Zayo will acquire smaller metro area fiber networks in Chicago, San Antonio, and the tri-cities area in Tennessee.

Verizon, Nokia Siemens Networks claim new record for 100G transmission
SEPTEMBER 25, 2008 -- Verizon and Nokia Siemens Networks carried out a successful field trial of 100-Gbit/sec transmission on a single wavelength for more than 1,040 kilometers of field fiber, setting a new distance record and demonstrating better performance than conventional transmission, they claim.
StrataLight Communications, Avanex to test 100G optical networking
SEPTEMBER 24, 2008 -- StrataLight says it will work with Avanex Corp. to demonstrate 100-Gbit/sec network traffic in a state-of-the-art network testbed. The testbed will be used to verify the propagation performance of StrataLight's 100-Gbit/sec transponder technology, with Avanex providing dispersion compensation modules and high-performance, gain-flattened optical amplifiers.
FiberZone Networks touts commercial deliveries of the AFM-360
SEPTEMBER 24, 2008 -- FiberZone confirms that first sales and several deliveries of the AFM360 were made to large carriers in Asia and the U.S. These deliveries followed an extended field trial in which another major carrier successfully transmitted the first live traffic over FiberZone AFM in an active central office, says the company.

SEPTEMBER 23, 2008 -- NeoPhotonics' new ultra-low loss ROADM modules are being used in ECI Telecom's XDM Optical Networking Platform. The ultra-low loss ROADM incorporates NeoPhotonics' PLC technology to significantly reduce the insertion loss and increase the pass band, thus meeting the requirements for next-generation 40-Gbit/sec optical transmission systems, say the companies.
