Ovum: Global FTTx deployments grew 11% in 4Q07
APRIL 8, 2008 -- Asia-Pacific continues to dominate FTTx deployments with 84% of all global installations. North America had 14% of all global deployments with Verizon leading the way.

FTTH Council releases latest North American numbers
APRIL 8, 2008 By Meghan Fuller Hanna -- Michael Render, president of RVA LLC and author of a biannual report on the North American FTTH market, provided a preview of his latest numbers in a FTTH Council-sponsored Webinar held yesterday afternoon. Render confirms that 10% of North American homes are now passed with fiber.

New survey finds gaps in U.S. broadband
MARCH 20, 2008 -- In a new survey commissioned by Tellabs, 94% of respondents are dissatisfied with the current FCC definition of broadband as 200 Kbits/sec. In fact, 84% of respondents believe that a better definition of broadband is a service that can deliver high-quality streaming video.

FCC releases data on high-speed services for Internet access
MARCH 20, 2008 -- The FCC finds that high-speed connections to the Internet increased by 22% during the first half of 2007, from 82.8 million to 100.9 million lines in service.

Infonetics: GPON prepares to take off in 2008, WDM-PON emerges
MARCH 20, 2008 -- The worldwide market for PON systems, which includes BPON, EPON, GPON, and WDM-PON equipment, jumped 56% to $1.74 billion in 2007 over 2006, according to Infonetics Research's latest quarterly report, "PON and FTTH Equipment and Subscribers."

Dittberner: FTTH 2008 shipments to blow past 2007 record
MARCH 13, 2008 -- According to Dittberner's "DSL, FTTH, and FTTB/LAN Shipment Analysis," FTTH shipments rose 5% quarter-on-quarter in Q4 2007 to 1.7 million and 42% for the whole year to 6.3 million. Both were records -- for now.

Report: US Consumers more savvy about broadband options

FTTH Councils: Deployment spreads globally
MARCH 4, 2008 -- The new ranking, based on statistics gathered at the end of 2007, lists 14 economies where more than one percent of households are connected directly into high-speed fiber-optic networks. On the three councils' first-ever ranking, released last July, 11 economies exceeded the 1% threshold. Slovenia, Iceland and Singapore were the new entries on the list.

Heavy Reading: FTTH deployments to grow more than 40% in 2008
FEBRUARY 7, 2008 -- Heavy Reading analysts predict connections will continue to grow at rates above 30% annually through 2012, when the number of fiber-connected households will reach nearly 90 million globally.
