LS Cable readies European GPON invasion
24 July 2008 -- LS Cable is set to roll out its new GPON technology in Europe. The exact timing of its entry into the market has not been revealed.

Verizon enhances FiOS with next-generation home gateways
JULY 21, 2008 -- According to Verizon, its new routers, from Actiontec and Westell, will boost total home download speeds up to 175 Mbits/sec, enable multiple Wi-Fi networks in the home, and simplify in-home connectivity.

Suo Cable Net taps Alcatel-Lucent for Japanese GPON

JULY 15, 2008 -- Alloptic has been granted a patent for "Multiple wavelength TDMA optical network" technology in the United States (U.S. Pat. 7,386,236).

ECFiber selects Oppenheimer to fund FTTH build
JULY 14, 2008 -- "This is a very big deal," contends project director Tim Nulty, formerly of Burlington Telecom. "Oppenheimer is risking a lot of money to put this together. You can be sure that they would not enter into such an agreement if they were not very confident that they can complete the financing," he contends.

TranSwitch to acquire Centillium Communications
JULY 10, 2008 -- Transwitch CEO Santanu Das cites Centillium's success in NTT's EPON-based FTTH deployment as a key benefit of the acquisition. "The Japanese government has made a major commitment to rolling out FTTH, and NTT's goal is to reach 20 million homes by 2010. This represents a major revenue opportunity for the company," he says.

EU to fund Ignis-led WDM-PON project
JULY 7, 2008 -- Ignis Photonyx says it will lead a joint project to develop a prototype of a WDM-PON optical subsystem. The project is being funded by the European Commission for approximately $4.7 million.

Connexion to build FTTH network in Chandler, AZ
JULY 7, 2008 -- Fiber-optic amenity company Connexion Technologies will build a FTTH network for the Met, a multi-use development located in Chandler, AZ.
